Replacing a few spokes
DIR By: Steve Wyatt

I have managed to obtain a couple of 17 inch put bike wheels of
eBay. They are in need of a little TLC and a few, not many,
spokes replacing. Is there any advice anywhere on this topic
please - dos, donts, where to get spokes?
Thank you.
PS I'm not sure how to add a post to the various categories
technical, design etc.

A set of spokes from red circles is fairly cheap...
HTML https://redcircles.co.uk/17-front-pit-bike-wheel-spoke-set/?searchid=491543&search_query=
As are new wheels from them. if you call Alex and talk to him at
red circles, the current offer is for all 4 wheels 1.6" rim 17",
four road tyres from a choice and four tubes delivered for a
total of £210. Only available by phone, say they are for a
CycleKart.
If spokes are missing on 17" wheels the first thing to look at
is the rim. The rim should be 1.6" wide for use with rear
cyclekart axle as the narrower 1.4" ones have proven a little
too weak to stand the rigors of cornering. Check the spoke seats
are intact with no tears in the metal.
When you replace the spokes, you may need to true the wheel a
little by putting it on an axle and spinning it slowly to a
datum point on the rim - not tyre (pointy stick clamped to
chassis) - you don't want the spokes too tight, they should not
vibrate (buzz) when hit with a small spanner, but you are also
not trying to get top c on a piano either, sometimes to true a
wheel you will need to release tension on the over tight side
rather than adding it to the slack side. Not all spokes will
ring with the same note when the wheel is true, what matters is
that they all do a job and none are slack.
New wheels will need this process doing after your first event,
nip up the slack ones and check for true. After a few events,
they seem to bed in and don't move as much.
If you need to add to a topic on the forum. From the home page,
scroll down to the "forums" section second from bottom, find the
relevent forum, for this post I would go

Hope this helps
