       Drilling chassis

hello all, a quick question, my chassis came pre welded but
doesnt have any holes for the rear axle or bearings.
Is there a safe way to drill this without a pillar drill? i can
imagine the drill rotating rather than the drill bit when it
bites into the steel and I dont fancy having to hold the chassis
between my legs to drill it!
       thanks
       Paul

We did ours by drilling pilot holes and then using a good
quality hole-saw, using lashings of lubricant.

Depending on your ride height, some people mount the bearings on
plates above the chassis rails. Not a direct answer to your
       question but an alternative approach.

As Stephan says mounting the axle above the chassis saves making
a tub to go below the chassis, you can just put a flat floor in.

Paul. If you do go for the bearings through the chassis rail I
would recommend the holes cutters with individual cutters. The
standard cutters do go blunt. They are more expensive but they
       are easier to cut through.

thanks all. hole cutters on will be ordered and i have found a
pillar drive to use provided the chassis will fit into thew
       workshop
