Maserati Tipo 26

Hi
my name is Dave and this is my first cyclekart build of a
Maserati Tipo 26, I'm based south of Coventry and have to say up
front thanks to Christopher Kaminski for his advice and just
being able to go and see his cars, when you thinking of starting
it's good to look at the real things.
It's throwing it down outside so decide to start my build
journal finally.

So after checking the regs I have obtained a Honda GX200 engine
and ordered the steel probably too much steel but I guess it
will get used.
I know I have gone for probably a more complex chassis but I
need rear suspension as I fear my back wouldn't tolerate a solid
rear, I have looked around and decided on this model as I like
the shape and have found some drawings of a cyclekart chassis to
base mine on. so the collecting started a few months back and
I'm into the building now.

replying to myself to add pics, as you can then see how far ham
along with the project.

As you can see it's coming along I guess I haven't hit the "how
do I manage that" moments yet but I'm sure they're on the way
lol, as you can see I'm building it outside at the moment as I
have another car in the garage (note to self need to temporarily
store other car).
And I have just found out if I modify the post I can add more
pics Hurrah!!

this 1st pic shows aligning the engine using a 25mm tube as I
was waiting for my axel from Mark, also the leaf springs are his
as will be quite a few other bits.
I've already been told to check if I might need more spring as
it will be holding the engine as well so may have to beef it up
a bit later one but for now I'm ok with it.
before anyone hits me for my welding skills I'm partially
sighted in one eye and struggle to neatly weld internal angles
::)
so that's as far as I am at the moment will update when things
progress (weather permitting).

Looking good. Have you considered a sprung seat rather than rear
suspension. I have that option on my MG for when my back is bad.
It works very well.
Good luck with the rest of the build.
Cheers Nick
