CKGB @ THE OULTON PARK "GOLD CUP" 29th - 31st AUGUST

This first post of this topic will be updated as and when
information is received or becomes available.
DATE: 29th to 31st August
VENUE: Oulton Park International Race Circuit near Chester
STATUS: National - Endorsed
DESCRIPTION: Static and dynamic displays on our own track, which
will be created from an existing rally experience stage with a
polished concrete surface, and including a grass portion for the
paddock. This is a headlining three day event with historic
races ranging from VSCC veteran cars to F1.
In addition to the races on the race track, there will be a
massive display of classic cars, classis buses, a classic car
concourse, classic car auction, trade stands and live music.
Our area will be roughly central to all this activity.
Due to noise limitations, there is no racing Sunday morning, so
this is when we will concentrate on our static display.
It is planned to have a variety of dynamic activities on
Saturday plus the Sunday afternoon, and Monday.

EVENT SUPPORT ROLES:
Event Lead (General event management and Planning) – Ian
Fletcher
Clerk of Course (Risk assessment and ensuring regulation
compliance) – Ade Colmar under training by a Senior Clerk (Jim
Rawnsley)
Deputy Clerks of Course (Various supporting duties, especially
start line duties) – Ian Fletcher, Ed Powell, Granville Nixon,
Tim Wheater, Ian Smythe.
Event Secretary (Processing entry forms & signing-on) – Tim
Holdsworth
Medical - Provided by venue
EVENT REGULATIONS: “To be issued”
ENTRY FORM: “To be issued”
COSTS: To be confirmed. Expected to be about £40 per driver
for full weekend including camping. Slightly less for
additional drivers and less again for accompanying persons.
ACTIVITIES: In addition to the static display, there will be
demonstration driving. However, the track has very little grip
in some areas, whilst high speeds are achieved in other areas.
Consequently, there may be a sprint on a shortened version of
the demonstration track.
OTHER COMMENTS: Camping available, details to follow.
No dogs or other animals are allowed on site.
Electronic entry tickets will be emailed to all accepted
entrants (and accompanying support person) in the week prior to
the event.
Full-face helmets will be required for this event.

ENTRY LIMITATIONS: Any limitations will depend on how many
members volunteer to be officials. However, it is hoped that we
can support between 30 and 35 entrants.
The track has very little grip in some areas, whilst high speeds
are achieved in other areas. Consequently, only experienced
cyclekart drivers and proven cyclekarts are likely to be
accepted for this event.
ENTRANTS: Please can you give an early indication of entering
by posting a % probability of entry, which will allow the club
to gauge the amount of support required and finalise the entry
fees.
If the number of entrants needs to be limited, then a list of
"approved" entrants will be posted. Only APPROVED persons can
submit an entry form.

WOW, what a response :D
Many thanks to all those that have posted their probability of
entry for this event. Your responses greatly help with setting
the entry fee and defining the composition and size the support
team.
Last year the limitation in entries was 30, and whilst we did
not need to reject any entries, we were right on the limit.
For this year I am currently negotiating a larger camping area
(last years limiting factor), but there is then the capacity of
the track, and the size of support team that will be required.
Consequently, this year if we are going to accept more than 30
drivers. I will be selecting the most viable persons from the
entry list and then asking them to volunteer to fill various
posts. So, if we get a robust support team, then we may be able
to increase the entry level from 30 drivers to 35.
Once the entry size has been defined, the people on the list, in
list order, will be annotated as being "APPROVED" and then they
will be able to submit the entry form.
If an entry is not received within a reasonable amount of time,
then the next person on the list will be "APPROVED" ;D

SAFETY
The track that the CKGB activities will take place on has a hard
concrete surface with low-grip in some areas, plus speeds of up
to 40mph are expected.
Consequently, please be aware that full-face helmets (with
visors or goggles) will be required for this event.
In addition, clothing made from reasonably abrasion resistant
material that covers the body to the wrists and ankles will also
be required together with strong gloves.
This will be detailed in the Event Regulations when they are
issued.

GOLD CUP UPDATE
The event details and support team are now being finalised,
consequently the Event Regulations and the Event Entry Form are
now being finalised and will be issued in the next week or so.
The following is an extract from a Topic posted at the start of
the season titled "GENERAL INFORMATION FOR THE 2026 SEASON":
* 2026 will probably be the first year where we will have to
limit the number of entries for some events.
* The decision on who will be "APPROVED" to submit the Event
Entry Form will be based on whether a driver or cyclekart has
successfully completed previous events.
* Please support the regional events where there is generally
more time to shake-down your new cyclekart and gain experience
in a more relaxed format.
* Please note that the larger events will become more formal.
This is because large events require more management, and there
is significantly more activity to fit into the same timescale
and space.
Also as mentioned in the heading post, the Oulton Park track is
the fastest track we use, and also has minimal grip plus some
rough run-off areas. Therefore, it is only suitable for
experienced drivers.
Furthermore, it is also the event that requires the most support
and event management. Thankfully we have been able to produce a
good support team, and we have a larger camping area for this
year. Consequently, we had a limit of 30 drivers for last year,
but for 2026 we will be increasing this by a few more, but there
are currently 39 on the list!
Therefore, I will be applying the above factors when approving
members to enter this event. There are some members on the list
that have not yet successfully completed an event this year, so
they may not be approved, or their approval may be pending their
attending one of the forthcoming events (EG Elvington).

submit an entry form.

GOLD CUP UPDATE
Hi all, tomorrow the 11th August will be 2 weeks since the
criteria for being APPROVED to enter this event was posted on
the Forum.
So far we have received 11 entries, but the entry deadline is
only a few days away (midnight 15th August).
Last weekend we had three events on, so I expect many members
will have waited to ensure they survived the weekend! :D
However, we have a limit of 35 drivers and there are currently
37 names on the list ???
Therefore, the APPROVED drivers on the list have until midnight
12th August to submit their entries. After this date the
reserve drivers will be offered any places that have not been
taken.
If there are any APPROVED drivers, who know they wont be
entering, please could you amend your likelihood of attendance
accordingly?

CAMPING
Camping details have now been finalised. We will be in
approximately the same area as last year. If you were not there
last year, then directions are in the Event Regulations.
We have a larger area this year, but also more drivers,
consequently our camping area will still be a bit packed, so
please see a CKGB official on arrival for instructions on where
to set up your pitch. Those sleeping in vehicles may want to
bring some chocks/ramps as the ground slopes in many parts of
our area.
You can camp from Friday, but please do not turn up till 12:30
as per the event regulations, because this then gives time for
the CKGB officials to arrive and prepare the camping area.
Camping is also available Monday night for those travelling a
long distance home, but the area needs vacating by about 09:30
on Tuesday so we can do our final clear-up.

SAFETY REMINDER
Oulton Park is the fastest track for this season, and also has
the most unpredictable surface! Consequently, it probably has
the highest risk of our events this season. Therefore, please
take heed of the final page of the Event Regulations regarding
safety.
The attached photo is from Elvington last week and you can
clearly see that the front inside wheel/tyre is well clear of
the track. From the angle of the cyclekart the rear is also
either just off the ground or about to clear the ground. In
other words its not that far from rolling over!

NOISE LEVELS
Oulton Park has a noise restriction effective Sunday mornings up
to 12:15. However, there is a possibility that we may run the
sprint on the Sunday morning if the venue are happy that the
noise from a single cyclekart running in the dip of the ground
is not a problem.
If this is the case then some of the noisy cyclekarts may not be
allowed to take part. Please refer to this post about noise

FIRE RISK RESTRICTIONS
Hi all, NORA have introduced some temporary fire risk
restrictions, however I will also be consulting MSV to see what
restrictions they have in place. I will then post the combined
set of restrictions for Oulton Park (probably end of next week).
