       Mercedes W125 1937

This time I'm helping Dean out building his kart, he's chosen
the iconic 1937 Mercedes W125. What with the curves on this one
there's no way making the body from ally so this will be a full
fiberglass one. But with this in mind it does make the chassis a
basic build as it's not on show, so we picked up a kit courtesy
of Mark (Cyclekart Workshop). Standard front axle from Gemini
karts again front springs cut down from a pair of matching
leaves from an old Morris with eyelets machined and welded on.
Next will be to get the rear assembled (axle and wheels), on the
ground so I can get the chassis leveled and measure up for the
length of the shackles for the front suspension. Then to get the
engine in position and mountings made. Engine is a
Maxpeedingrods 212 with electric start and cockpit will be a ply
coffin style as per the stevenson method.

Great start to another build CK! Looks like you may be going
down the rabbit hole that I did with fibreglass. I ended up
making 2 sets of "stations" like your cardboard profiles from
ply and wood and using the ones around the cockpit clad with
thin alloy and lightened with holes. I used the second set for
the buck to form the foam and cast the skin in several sections
to join at the stations or a horizontal at the chassis top. It
worked out better than I could have hoped for a first go at
fibreglass but took a lot of sanding. I now hate fibreglass
enough to not want to do it again. Best of luck!

having a couple of silver arrows about, would love to see it.

True that, will look pretty cool 😎 especially with
Jim's Auto Union. I look forward to seeing it progress.

There is a chance we might get to Donington next season, and if
you get a shift on, we could recreate the 1937 result...

So ply cockpit made this time around, modified auto pedal box
from something and made a start on sculpting a buck for the
       fiberglass nose cone.
