Ali express carb not up to scratch
By: DavidandCarolynne Date: March 24, 2025, 10:55 am

Hi all,
In my ignorance I ordered a VM22 carb from Ali Express. The
quality is poor and I can't seem to access pilot jets that fit
this thing, plus the manifold that came with it is less than
ideal.
We're got the engine to run a couple of times, and runs OK once
it's started, but starting is very hit-and-miss, but mostly
'miss' It's very hard to get it started.
I think we need to start again with a carb and manifold that
folk have actually successfuly used.
Any steers in the right direction will be most gratefully
appreciated.
The engine is a Lifan, with the governor removed.

Try getting an overbored, original Honda carb. These cheap clone
carbs are not always the best !!!

Do you have the very small jets in yours? Like the ones all over
amazon but smaller? It is probably jetted wrong for that engine.
I got the correct jets from ali express and it's ran fine since

I've ordered pilot jets twice - they don't fit. I can't find
pilot jets with the thread size needed.

Hi David , I have a Chinese mikuni made under licence. It’s been
nothing but trouble although main & pilot jets from the same
supplier do fit. I have only just succeeded in getting it
working with lots of advice from Southwest forum. My MG has a
Honda GX carb reamed to 17 mm it worked perfectly straight out
of the box.
Make your own choice.
Regards Nick

The Mikuni came from Red Circles in bude The Honda carb came
from family member who works for local motorcycle dealership.
You can get reamed carbs from GX tuning although they are quite
expensive.

If you eventually choose to go for a reamed and re worked carb,
I have both a 16.5 and a 17 on my karts, I will say I prefer a
16.5, much better with the gearing we run for torque
