Honda GX200 Engines
By: Chris Date: December 9, 2024, 12:11 pm

Hi Everyone
Can someone explain the differences between T1, T2 and other
models of the GX200 range. Does it impact the tuneability of the
particular engine? Seems to be a bit of a minefield.
Ta Chris

Hi Stefan, yes I have seen the thread and several others on the
internet, but no one sem to address the difference between T1
and T2 enginges. I think the T2 engines have a flat top piston
and larger combustion chamber head. also a longer connectiing
rod, but this needs to be confirmed. i have a T2 engine which I
will be tearing down soon so will keep the group informed.

My understanding is that the T2 is the later development of the
earlier and discontinued, T1 Model.
Parts are not all interchangeable.

I agree with you John, the T2 is the latest version of the GX. I
now believe that it’s probably due to the down rating of the
engine from 6.5 to 5.5 bhp. It looks like the GX200 T2 has a low
compression dished piston whereas the T1 used a flat top. The
160 T2 has a flat top piston which is useable in 200

A bit of an update. I started to pull apart the GX200 T2 engine
that I have. It's a Thai unit manufactured in Jan 2021. It has a
dished piston and large volume cylinder head which will both
lower the compression ratio. it does however have a 10thou
headgasket which will raise the compression ratio. The T2 engine
also met Euro 5 emission standards. So no horror stories, it's
quite possible to tune either T1 or T2 variety to the same level
buy chosing the correct parts.
