One Trailer Two Karts
By: Granville Date: October 18, 2024, 5:51 am

I'm possibly looking at building a second CycleKart, but before
even planning I need to be able to transport them on one
trailer.
Quite like the idea of stacking one on top of the other with
some sort of lifting ramp set up.
If you have done this or have a good idea how this could work
please share your ideas here.

Graham Appleyard's solution looked really good when I saw it.

This is the sort of idea me and my dad intend to use Granville.

I've been thinking about this too. If the karts are put on rear
end first, and the pivot point for the top deck is forward of
the balance point of the kart, the top deck will raise itself
when the kart is loaded. The rear end of the top deck will have
to be restrained until the kart is loaded. and when released
will just pivot. Not having seen Grahams trailer I don't know if
this is the way he's done it.

I see an issue with that in that moving the pivot point forward
enough to make the engine weight an advantage you would increase
the angle of the ramp so much that you would not be able to load
it, then you have to issue that you would have to use force to
get it to come back down again.
For instance if the trailer was 2.5M long, the height of the 2nd
bay was 1M then it would be roughly a 20degree ramp, if you
moved the pivot point 1M along the top bay that would become a
35degree slope quite a significant difference to push a kart up.

I was hoping that Graham might have come on to explain!
From memory his top deck is not a simple pivot, more an "offset
quadrilateral" so the both front and back lower themselves, the
back more than the front. That reduced the loading angle.
Something like a pantograph was what my peabrain remembers.
I have seen it somewhere else to, I'll see what I can find.
