Mark’s hartford damper sets from Ebay
By: synthpunk Date: July 21, 2024, 6:12 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Just a quick note to say how excellent I’ve found the above
mentioned items to be- 20 quid for 6 laser cut steel damper arms
with 65mm diameter ‘lollipops’. I’ve mounted mine via some
rubber anti vibration stud mountings. I’ve not taken it for a
spin yet but I can tell it’s going to be somewhat transformed
just with some static testing- pushing down on the front used to
result in some very ‘boingy’ behaviour… now it goes down, and
then it comes back up again. Perfect.
I used some BSA steering damper friction material discs. They
look like they’re made of some type of paxolin. 65mm dia with a
15.5 mm bore hole. I found some m8 washers that have a 15mm OD
that help keep the discs centered on the bolt. I’m currently
using a split washer to apply the preload, I’m going to track
down or make some star washers at some point.
I’m going to make some pointer nuts from some brass or aluminium
sheet and a couple of square nuts. I also have some decorative
discs that Rhys kindly sent me that I need to cut out and
attach. Testing period is still some time away- I still haven’t
had the chance to replace the crankcase gasket that leaked at
Brooklands yet. I accidentally slipped and fell into a music
shop and completely by accident bought a new synthesizer on
payday, so I’ve been busy making bleep bloop noises most
evenings this month instead of cracking on with the kart…. ;c)
Anyways. They are very good. Massive thanks once again to Mark
for making things like these, his springs, and a variety of
steering wheel blanks available to the rest of us for very
       reasonable prices. Cheers Mark!
       All the best, Rich.

       Rich
       Very kind of you,
I have just received some laser cut 2mm star washers and
pointers that attach to the bolt,
I will post some pictures in the morning, hopefully they will
       make life a little easier.
They will get added to the eBay listing in a couple of weeks
when I’m back from my holiday but I will ask Debbie to put some
in the post to you tomorrow so you can try them out for me!
       Cheers
       Mark

I really must remember to check back in here more often than
       once a week….
Anyways- it did mean that I had a lovely surprise when I got
home on Thursday evening and a wee parcel was waiting for me on
the doormat. Stars and pointers! Brilliant. They look lovely
too. Especially impressed with the arrow on the pointer.
This fine gift prompted me to pull my finger out and try and
sort out the oil leak at the back end, and i took the
opportunity to fit new, longer, stiffer shackles to the front
springs. I still haven’t managed to go for a test drive yet, as
I lost the crankshaft key steel in the dark and have only just
found it. So hopefully test drive it this afternoon. I’ve
removed the m6 rubber mounts on the dampers in favour of a bolt
to the axle as it was flexing too much on rebound. I’ll post
some more pics in a bit.
I had some doubts in the dark last night that a new gasket has
fixed the oil leak, Ive a horrible suspicion I’ve cracked the
crankcase somewhere during its runs at Brooklands…. I’ll run it
as a total loss system for a quick testing if that turns out to
be the case, but it’ll be annoying nonetheless. Anyone know
where to get a crankcase for a 212 sized clone?
Thanks once again to Mark, hope you’re having a cracking
       holiday…
       All the Best
       Rich

Hi Synthpunk, if you want stickers for these(see Marmon Wasp
       build journal) let me know.
       No charge.
       Cheers Nick
