Morris Minor Taylor Special

As one cyclekart is never enough this is the start of my next
cyclekart, a 1928 Morris Minor Special.
Original car is fitted with a Jap v twin engine and is used as a
trials car.

[attachimg=4]
As per usual it all starts with scale drawings.

Next is the obligatory CAD drawing to get my dimensions correct.
[attachimg=1]
And now the hunt for parts begins.
I was going to use the cut down Metro steering rack on the Vale
but I think I will keep it for the Minor.
[attachimg=2]
I already have a torque converter acquired and today I
collected a rear axle for a Mazda MX5.
[attachimg=3]
[attachimg=4]
And a rather nice wood rimmed steering wheel.

The plan with the axle is to turn it into a chain drive
differential as per Doug's Shed video on YouTube.
[attachimg=1]
And to have a sprung rear suspension.
Thats it for now, more updates later.

Another exciting build Noel, I am sure we will be all following
the build journals closely here. After the Vale Special, I'm
sure this one will be special. You should call her Swift...
Build on Noel! 😁😁😁

Another part ticked off the list. Gemini Karts drop axle.
[attachimg=1]
Made a start to the chain drive MX5 differential.
Bearings were a pain to get off, ended up cutting off with a
grinder.
[attachimg=2]
First job is to make a can to retain the grease in the diff.
Made from some 1mm aluminium.
[attachimg=3]
Held tight around the body of the diff with a jubilee clip,
marked and riveted.
[attachimg=4]
Next up is to make a lid for the can. Marked out and ready to
cut.

All cut out and ready for some panel beating.
[attachimg=1]
After a bit of fettling it turned out not too bad.
[attachimg=2]
Also added a 35mm hole.
[attachimg=3]
Fits nice and tight. Need to seal with polyurethane sealer
before I can pop rivet it in place.
[attachimg=4]
Need to add a couple of grease nipples and lithium grease before
I can fix in place.

Small update.
Sprocket gear machined and fitted to the diff.
[attachimg=1]
King pin housings welded to to the Gemini axle.
[attachimg=2]
Got a couple of channels folded up for the chassis as we can't
get 100x25 box here.
[attachimg=3]
Bumb irons for the front of the chassis started.
[attachimg=4]
Also got a pair of Mark's leaf springs.
