       legal cyclekart
By: Richard Date: May 1, 2024, 1:35 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
Its a sunny day and if i had finished my electric cycle kart it
would have been nice to take down to the pub for a quick shandy,
but if i had got stopped by the police would i have been in
breach of the law, the answer is yes, or is it, because its
electric, mobilty scooters are eletric and some are massive,
they dont get stopped (most of the time)
velo mobiles are aloud on the road, so is there a chance if i
build my three wheeled electric cyclekart and i only have the
motor set at 240w (the legal limit for electric bikes) and
insure it goes no faster than 15mph would that be enough to keep
out of the cells or would have to install pedals as well and
could i wire the energy from the pedals to a battery and not the
direct drive (pedal and chain) would this mean i would not
qualify as a cyclekart owner but velomobile owner. its a
question that will cause debate which is good i think it may
have been covered before looking forward to the answers

The rules on mobility scooters are here...
  HTML https://www.gov.uk/mobility-scooters-and-powered-wheelchairs-rules
And you need a reason to use one. Certain classes of mobility
scooter need insurance. Probably not a get out.
As for electric velomobile rules, an even bigger minefield must
       be crossed.
  HTML https://www.gov.uk/electric-bike-rules
Propulsion must be from the pedals I.E. you can not use it on
throttle only. 250w would get you nowhere.
If you want a road legal cyclekart, look to the rules around
heavy quadracycles and tricycles in this document -
  HTML https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/motorcycle-single-vehicle-approval-inspection-manual
It would mean a government test, brakes all wheels and proper
       road legal lighting etc.
Other than that you would probably be braking the law, I am not
a law expert, but the documents seem pretty clear.
