TAV belt adjustment

I'm building engine beds and gearbox mount for the cheapo Vevor
TAV and FNR gearbox.
My question is does the primary belt need to be adjustable or
can I fix the crankshaft to gearbox input shaft distance at
170mm which is to be the dimension the layshaft is on the
backplate that came with the kit ? The setup came with a 669
belt and a 6 inch driven pully.

The TAV2 30 set up with the back plate has no adjustment from
driver to driven so, within the life of a belt - which might be
less than a season- the belt just wears and gets a little slack.
What I mean by stating the obvious here is that when you set it
to start with, you can forget it.
I have never fit the reverse gearbox, but have contemplated
doing so. this video...

Has the best approach from my veiwing that I have found and the
gearbox itself, when he completes the mounting bracket uses the
mounting bolts one fixed at the bottom, one in a slot at the top
to fine adjust belt tension.
Hope this is some help.

Thanks Jim, that's probably the best way to go to be safe.
