GX200 Clone Camshaft

Hi All,
I've just got around to starting my project by stripping down
the new engine I had in storage to swap the crank from 20mm to
3/4 and remove the govenor. I've been re-building engines for
50 years but am completely stumped by what the centrifugal gizmo
on the camshaft is for. As far as I can see it's not related to
ignition or valve timing and isn't connected to the govenor
which has it's own balance weights in the plastic gear. The
only function I can think of is that it's a balance weight,
though I would think it's too small to achieve much. Anyone got
any Ideas? Have I just gone senile?
Bob

It Is for easy start as it retards timing so you can pull it
easily. The exhaust port opens early for this until it runs at
idle

I can't see how it varies the ignition timing as the low tension
mag is built into the flywheel and some form of solid state
capasative disharge ignition system is used There are no points
and all the ignition timing comes from the flywheel as far as I
can see.
Looking again it appears to be an automatic decompressor that
holds the exhaust valve tappet up at cranking speed, mystery
solved !
