Dumb question from a newbie.

I have a new Gx200 clone sitting in a box in my garage and when
I measure the shaft it comes up 19.8 mm which is more than the
imperial convertion for 3/4 inch which should be 19.05mm. Is
the 3/4 just a nominal size or have I got a wierd engine ?

Some engines have a 20mm shaft so it's probably one of them.

[/quote] Ouch, I'm either going to have to try and source a non
standard torque converter, strip the engine right down and
machine the crank or bore out the primary pully to fit 20mm on a
cheap torque converter. That should be fun.

Would it be easier to change the crank & bearings to one that’s
the correct dimensions.
Just a thought. Honda clone crankshafts about £25.00 on e bay
Good luck Nick

That's a good call at £25. I can't get over how cheap the bits
are for these. I'll probably skim the old crank anyway to put
in the spares bin as it should fit my lathe without any
problems. At least pulling the crank out will make deleting the
governor a doddle.
Thanks.

The 3/4" crank usually has a longer shaft too, I found that the
shorter shaft after skimming the 20mm to fit the TAV 30 only had
limited engagement to the outer part of the driven pulley. I
don't know if that would make a difference operationally, but
for piece of mind the extra engagement of the longer shaft gave
me one less thing to worry about.

My engine has a 200mm shaft. I bored the TAV drive bush out to
fit and have had no problems after a year of racing.

That should have read 20mm shaft.

Thanks to all who have replied. That gives me a lot of
information and options.
