A different way to tackle a governor

Having wrestled with the governor once and been bloodied from
the experience, I have spent several idle moments trying to find
a better way of tackling the beast without resorting to foul
language. I had come to the conclusion that a hot knife for
pyrography might be the way when Tim from Bingley told me he had
just managed to yank his off!
I tried that and failed. Boo! So I resorted to the principle of
a big enough lever and somewhere to stand.
It worked like a charm on the Hyundai pulling the cog and the
       c-clip out without drama...
It worked less well in this warts and all video below, but you
get the idea. A small residual bit was left in place held
captive by the immovable c-clip - But it worked again!

Thanks Jim, it would be helpful to show on what you pulled out
where you had clamped on the mole grips onto the governor part.

The screwdriver that went under the location pins and over the
shaft was 6mm dia. The governor cog was held at 6 o'clock with
the release trigger on the mole grips lowest and the wrench was
       an adjustable

I’ve tried all these techniques for removing the governor gear
with very little success. I soon realised that it is very
simple and straightforward to remove the flywheel and tap the
shaft through from the other side. Having removed the gear and
washer you simple tap the shaft back in to fill the unwanted
hole. In my experience a lot less swearing and damaged fingers.

       [/quote] I’d second this - works like a charm

Good idea Glynn, I heated a hack saw blade with map gas & melted
the nylon gear pulled out the shaft & tapped the hole M8 &
       screwed in a bolt
