Rolling chassis & basic body kit

Hi Guys,
Do you think there is a market for me to be selling basic
rolling chassis kits, basic body kits and fully built cars.
The fully built cars would only be a basic design for those who
don't have the time or means to build their own.
I enjoy the building side of things but if this would help bump
up the numbers it should be good.

Hi Drinkell, for me personally more than half the fun is in
building it yourself.
A potential problem is that you sell a Kart to some moron with
more ego than ability, they then crash the kart hurt themselves
& go after you through the Courts.
No offence to your building skills intended.

Hi Nick,
I already have public and product liability insurance in place
for other things and they will modify the cover for a small fee.
I find the building is the best part but my wife won't let me
keep building them and keeping them at home.
I've already got the plans laid out for two. Parts are ordered.
In the middle of a house renovation then move for the next
couple of months.
I'll keep taking pictures as i build them

It is an idea that a few have had and given up on or changed
tack with their business along the way. It helps to see these
failures/ changes for what they are and perhaps gives some
insight into the market and how it can prove a tricky thing to
do successfully (unless you can see another story in the tale)
so a bit of history and how the world looks now for cyclekart
production...
In the U.K. we have had one such enterprise fail with few
chassis sold here and a few more in France, the vestige of the
website resides here...

In the states, which is a much bigger market, you have this
company that is still going selling its stock at a high price
but not furthering its business ... They used to do complete
cars and have a few "used" ones on the website now it is
questionable that they are selling much and I believe they
downsized the operation after a slow start but I could be wrong
here as it was from a conversation I had., all has gone a bit
quiet with them

Renegade used to do a chassis but now it seems it only does

In Germany there is Frank Bankonin but last I heard he was not
taking orders...

For me, most of the challenge lies in the build however, when
first starting out, if a chassis was available I would
definitely have considered it. As it turned out, I am glad I
went the way I did because it has made me learn new things. I
also have unique things that were my own doing (for better or
worse). As for bodies, I think that is where all the karts need
to be as individual as possible. It is a spectacle seeing all
the different karts at an event, and, the talk amongst builders
is always interesting as we have all done different things, we
spring ideas in each other. A uniform kart perhaps, would not do
that for me.

that Cyclekarts should not be bought or sold, but should be a
product of their owners imagination and practical ability.

This is a much debated subject and all the comments here are
valid, although I would add we have made great progress in the
UK forging our own set of rules and guidelines to suit the way
Cyclekarting and Cyclekarters are heading here which has been
acknowledged as “done the right way” from pretty cool guys in
the scene from the states, so if there is a general need and
want for a kit of sorts that helps the hobby grow in a safe and
tried and tested way, complying with ckgb guides, that has to be
a good thing in any way you look at it as the club needs members
and active driving karts at events all over the country.
I don’t think that a fully turn key kart is the answer but for
those who don’t have the tools or equipment or space to build
from nothing etc and to encourage a wider age range, it is a
great way to start the journey as it would still take many many
man hours to complete as we all know!!! And with all that effort
hopefully respect for the kart and others on a track
environment.
As with any niche hobby, you must immerse yourself into the
scene, try, understand, get involved and maybe fail a few times
until you gain the full picture and support of fellow members
before you launch into selling something that although may seem
simple to some, still needs to be right regardless of what
insurance is in place.
Either way it’s great to hear people being so enthusiastic about
the scene and look forward to you building your CK’s - come and
have some fun 👍

Thanks for the replys.
There's some great information on those web site.
Franks builds seem to be on a different level.
For me this would just be a hobby as I work full time.
I think the best would be for me to build my first cyclekart as
an example of what I could offer.
The only thing with bodies would be slight differences each time
so no two are the same.
Do you think a rolling, driving chassis might promote more to
build their own bodies??
I could just build a car and then sell it and build another one.
If I could I would just build these all day every day but have
to work for another 8 years 1 month and 2 days.
I hope to be at the AGM on 9th March to meet you all and watch
everyone having fun at the track.

From the point of offering something, I have also given this
very serious thought.
I would suggest extreme caution from what has happened with each
of the quoted suppliers. Financially and legal issues have
caught all in some way. Then again if you think that it's
important to have an inspiration car, there is no "one size fits
all" chassis design so each would be a bespoke build.
I am not saying it can't or should not be done, there are many
opinions.

Just a personal opinion, but I think its shared by many of the
current members.
As stated in the second paragraph of the CKGB handbook, "the
club exists to promote the enjoyment of designing, building,
driving and improving cyclekarts"
A turn key cyclekart doesnt really meet those requirements.
However, on the other hand at some point people will be selling
their cyclekarts, which will then be owned by people that have
not designed or built them. I think the difference would be
that a secondhand CK has already been through the full process
described above and is simply continuing its life with the club.
Whereas CKs being built and then sold on with perhaps none or
just a couple of outings with the club doesnt really comply with
the ethos of the club.
The main aspects of the club is the cyclekarts and also their
creators, both of which are a strange and entertaining bunch ;D
Turn-key cars may or may not detract from that.
In summary, I think there is room for a couple of turn-key CKs,
but too many could impact the current great ethos of the club.
Again, just a personal opinion.
