11/12 MAY - CKGB at "RACE THE WAVES" BRIDLINGTON
By: Ian F Date: February 6, 2024, 10:00 am
---------------------------------------------------------
This first post of this topic will be updated as and when
information is received or becomes available. If you are
interested in entering, please add a post with the % probability
of entering and I will add your name to the list of entrants
below. This information will help the committee plan the
required resources.
THE FOLLOWING IS JUST A BRIEF PRECIS OF THE WEEKEND, FULL
DETAILS ARE IN THE EVENT REGULATIONS.
DATE:
10/11/12 May.
Friday 10th May, arrive at the Church Green YO16 7BN, unload and
display the cyclekarts (local press, radio and general public in
attendance). Signing-on. Timing is 10:00 till 17:00. Move to
the north end of the South Beach Car Park YO15 3QN to the "Hub",
which is a marquee. Drivers briefing and socialising from 18:00
to 21:00.
Saturday 11th May, this time head for the south end of the car
park to unload and prepare. Cyclekarts must be ready to move at
09:00 prompt as we will be leading a parade to the beach entry
point. We wait there till the conditions (tide) are OK, then
drive onto the beach and proceed along the waterline to our pit
area (20mph max) which is a mile along the beach. Approx 1 hour
display drives till the drag strip is ready. Cyclekarts will
run down the drag strip 5 abreast. We have full use of the
beach for the lunch break, then back to drag racing. The racing
ends by 16:00, then back to the hub for more socialising.
Sunday 12th May, same prompt 09:00 start and a similar programme
of activities, with some changes to the drag racing part.
VENUE:
"Race the Waves" drag racing on the "South" beach at
Bridlington.
DESCRIPTION:
Hot-Rod 1/8 mile drag strip Saturday and Sunday, with a 1/4 mile
shoot-out on the Sunday for the fastest cars. CKGB will be
taking part in the 1/8 mile drag racing, plus we will have our
own dynamic display area towards the top of the beach near the
promenade. This is to keep the public entertained whilst the
tide goes out and the drag strip is set up.
CKGB LEAD:
Jim Rawnsley (Jim R).
EVENT REGULATIONS:
To be issued. The main event will run under a NORA permit, and
the CKGB activities will run under its own NORA permit.
Consequently, you will need a NORA license to drive - A year's
basic CycleKart national adult license is £25 plus admin fee and
available here:
HTML https://nora92.com/product/annual-licence-2024/
COSTS:
Refer to the entry form.
OTHER COMMENTS:
Bridlington will be very busy this weekend and there is also a
sailing regatta and a SteamPunk festival. Consequently, many
local campsites and accomodation are already booked up.
One of the Hot-Rod racers has a campsite just north of
Bridlington and is offering fellow racers a reduced rate of £25
a night including electric hook-up. His name is Jon Hill and it
is Daneswood Holiday Caravan Park, 01262 850364.
Jim R has one volunteer to marshal at this event from a member.
Marshals must hold a CKGB membership, (which can be a temporary
membership for the event and free of charge if you are not a
driving member and want to volunteer) and instruction will be
given at the event if you are new to the task. Another volunteer
would be good. Contact Jim through ckgbmembership@gmail.com
“Knobbly” motor-cross type tyres will cut up the surface of the
CKGB track and drag strip, consequently only “road-pattern”
tyres are allowed for this event.
Dynamic activities on the are likely to include pursuit racing
as trialled at Santa Pod.
A more detailed programme has been added to the list of
attachments below.
A reminder that the event is period specific and period dress
from the 30's to the 50's is requested. This includes anyone
with a pit pass (Marshals, mechanics and general gofers) :-)
ENTRANTS:
Jim R has 11 names with a total of 12 cyclekarts listed for Race
the Waves. All those who applied to Race The Waves were

UPDATE:
After talking to Paul at Race The Waves the other day, He was
thrilled by the response so far (We seem to have 12 Cyclekarts
so far in attendance) and wondered if an unbodied running
chassis or two might attend as extra interest. Something we had
not considered due to the nature of the event. They would need
to be drive-able as we have no other means of getting them to
the beach. Something to think about if being unfinished was an
issue. They would need to attend the whole weekend programme too
(Fri to Sun). (See header post for programme)
A reminder that the event is period specific and period dress
from the 30's to the 50's is requested. This includes anyone
with a pit pass (Marshals, mechanics and general gofers) :-)
Not Long Now!

Not long now and entries are closing today (Later than
publicised due to a couple of delays) A couple on my original
list seem not to have applied so this is the last call for them.
So far we have 13 confirmed cyclekarts. Please all read the
documentation at the bottom of the first post and bring the
signing on paperwork with you.
We will be constrained by time on the day for entry to the beach
so please be prompt or risk exclusion by the RTW marshals.
It is looking like a great weekend, lets all hope the weather
holds :-)

See you Thurs Jim. I think I'm on CL07 so possibly your
neighbour. Just look for loads of empty lager cans littering the
pitch and that could be me. :)

For those intending to go to church green on the Friday, most of
the information is in the programme at the start of this thread
(Download) for clarification, the roads in the green are
pedestrianised for the day and have no vehicular access. The
following image shows the plan for the day, it will get busy,
and there will be press, cameras, radio stations and the public
so turn up as early as you can.
