6 OCTOBER - SHUTTLEWORTH RACE DAY
By: Ian F Date: February 6, 2024, 9:54 am
---------------------------------------------------------
This first post of this topic will be updated as and when
information is received or becomes available. If you are
interested in entering, please add a post with the % probability
of entering and I will add your name to the list of entrants
below. This information will help the committee plan the
required resources.
DATE:
6th October. Entrants will need to be unloaded and in place
prior to the public admission time (See attached Joining
Instructions at the bottom of this post).
VENUE:
The "Shuttleworth Collection" at Old Warden airfield near
Biggleswade.
DESCRIPTION:
CKGB static display and dynamic display (15 minute session) as
part of a combined vintage/veteran car show and airshow.
CKGB LEAD:
Ian Fletcher
EVENT REGULATIONS:
To be issued.
ACTIVITIES:
There is planned to be a static display of Cyclekarts in front
of the hangars.
There will also be a a dynamic display of vehicles that the
cyclekarts will be a part of. The dynamic display is simply a
number of parade laps around a relatively long lap comprising
half of the grass runway, the dispersal area in front of the
hangars plus the link roads to/from the runway. There will be a
mix of vehicles so drivers need to drive in a disciplined
manner. Additionally, there is a Flight Safety hazard from any
items that may fall off the cyclekarts. Consequently,
cyclekarts will be vetted by CKGB and Shuttleworth staff before
being cleared for the parade laps.
COSTS:
To be confirmed, but significantly discounted on the public
admission price. Costs will be approx £12 FOR CYCYCLEKART
DRIVER PLUS ONE SUPPORT PERSON.
OTHER COMMENTS:
Includes access to the museum containing cars, bikes and planes
(including the oldest flying plane in the world). Our static
display area will be in a prime location right in front of the
hangars. Many famous racing cars from our inspiration era also
attend this event.
“Knobbly” motor-cross type tyres will cut up the
surface of the grass runway, consequently only “road-pattern”
tyres are allowed for the demonstration runs. Knobblies are
acceptable for the static display only.
Please can I ask that all people going to Shuttleworth send an
email to me at ckgbeventsco@gmail.com requesting a Shuttleworth
Application form by 6th September. I will then reply with a
copy of the application form, which will need to come back to me
by 9th September. I then need to get these collated and back to
Shuttleworth for the 13th September.
Costs will be £10 for cyclekart driver plus one support person.
The names listed below have been accepted by Shuttleworth, so
the CKGB entry form has now been issued to cover the NORA costs
(see attachment).

UPDATE 17/9/24
The Entry Form has now been issued and is available as an
attachment to the heading post. It should only be used for the
cyclekarts that have been accepted by Shuttleworth (see list of
entrants in heading post).
Closing date for entries is Friday 27th September
We have one 15 minute session at the end of the vehicle display
period, and then we can watch the air display.
I will notify times and entry details closer to the date.

UPDATE 30/9/24
To all the entrants listed in the heading post, I have now
attached the Joining Instructions from Shuttleworth, which
incudes your arrival points and timings for the event.
Please note that the marshals will have an approved list of
entrants and will issue your passes from this list when you
first arrive. You will then be directed to the appropriate
location.
We will be running under a NORA permit, so you will need to sign
on with me or Jim Rawnsley and submit your mandatory "Cyclekart
Safety Declaration Form" (attached to the header post of this
topic) and your recommended "In Case of Emergency Form". If you
have already submitted an ICE form this season, then I will have
that with me and another is not required.

Well, What a nice day that turned out to be. Luckily the weather
held off and was quite nice at times. The demo laps around the
site went well and I managed to get a video of the mass start
and sprint down the runway. The petrol karts ran far better than
the diesel one. There were plenty of inspiration cars and some
lovely old bikes going round. Followed by some very ropey old
planes which gave the day plenty of interest. Deffo going again.

For the cyclekarter who now shall be named "Vin" for the fueling
of not one, but two cyclekarts with super diesel, we salute you.
Really sorry you missed the laps, but top gear rules were
applied in all fairness. Would love to see the video Jim! And
thanks for the great organisation to Ian.
