       Braking systems.

       On my Vale I have a brake band made for the hand brake. These
       can be bought cheaply or can be made. Mine is simply a drum
       attached to the axle with a band of metal fitted with a strip of
       leather. A cable from the hand brake pulls the band down onto
       the drum.

       Here's my cheap and cheerful solution, though I probably need
       less braking power with the reverse gearbox, I start in neutral,
       so there's no added push from the transmission.
       The handbrake lever is from an original Mini, the only
       adjustment needed was to flatten out the right angle bend in the
       mounting bracket, and drill a new mounting bracket hole.
       [attach=1]
       A small twisted bracket was attached to the rear mounting point,
       this hold the outer sleeve of a brake cable, and has a hole for
       the cable to pass through, and fit into the handbrake lever.
       [attach=2]
       At the other end there's a bike brake caliper attached to the
       frame of the cyclekart, it's enough to hold the cyclekart from
       rolling away.
