Handbrake Lever - Inspiration Needed

I want to make a handbrake lever like this...

I could make the arm easily enough but the pawl and ratchet
could be tricky so starting with a similar mechanism would be
easier.
Any suggestions?

Hi Max. My handbrake lever page 6 of my build journal is made
from a block of Mahogany & a patio door sprung bolt & a bicycle
brake lever. There is a much better one near the end of Moogies
build journal, if I do another kart I will be stealing that
design.

Have you looked at the part of a bicycle that goes from either
beneath the seat to the rear wheel, or the one from the pedal
assembly back, lovely tapered tubes.
OR I have a real one here someone can have for £10.
