Members Map

Hi, I have seen on other forums that they have a map showing the
general location of each member. Would this be something that
could be added to our forum? I think it would be useful to see
who is in your area if you need help building your kart or to
arrange meet ups etc.

Hi both.
We have the bones of this back of shop. It's been a busy year
dealing with new regulations and other items.
We should have something in the not too distant future.

I have seen some forums show maps of forum users. We use
preconfigured and hosted forum software, so we're very limited
in what we can add by way of maps etc. We can fairly easily
produce a map of club members (as opposed to forum users) but it
would be a manual process. Were you thinking of users (approx
400) or members (approx 40)?

I would expect it to be an opt-in setup, for those that wish to
share, so I'd envisage somewhere around 200. Too many for a
manual process, unless the users manually set their own pin,
rather than an admin having to do it.

If it was open to people to add themselves, I think this would
be ideal but that might not be possible. I know that I had a
good bit done of my kart built before I became a member, so it
would need to be for all forum users to use.
If the information can only be added by one person , I'm willing
to take on that task if required.

So we now have a map and you can register your location. We
can't tie it into the forum user profiles (trust me I've tried),
but this gives us a working solution.
Choose the "Map" menu option and you can browse the map
(obviously, it'll be pretty empty initially!). Below the map is
the map registration form. Note, it won't update immediately,
so if you enter your info, you might not appear on the map for a
few days.
