Morgan F4

Ever since I started building the Austin I've had it in my head
that a great Morgan could be built based on a Chinese scooter
engine ( GY6 125cc ).
So a couple of months ago I had the chance of a good used engine
/ transmission and ended up buying it. I've now completed the
concept design and I'm busy building the chassis. I'm planning
to go full spaceframe chassis this time to save weight over my
previous plywood body. Many thanks to Chris Brown and Rhys
Nolan for the information regarding the front suspension which
helped me enormously.

Here's the chassis /front suspension design and bare chassis
fabrication. Need to get the engine mountings sorted today.

Looking like a good start Glynn ;D The way things are going, we
might need a missing wheel cup! four that I know about now.

That's the engine mountings sorted. Now I have to wait for
materials to arrive for the front suspension.
Anybody have a gokart seat that they don't need ?

You might want to put a narrower block tread tyre on the rear
wheel. I found that with the original 120 tyre I had too much
grip on the rear end, too easy to get onto two wheels. If I
remember correctly I changed over to a 3.50, not going out to
check, it's proper Welsh rain out there.
Edit: Dump the original silencer too, I saved 2.75 Kg by doing
that, if I remember correctly.

Thanks for that Chris, all good advice for later. Did you use
the original exhaust header pipe or replace the whole system ?
What silencer did you use and was the sound level ok?

I used a replacement exhaust pipe and silencer, the tyre was
actually a 3.00, more info on my build journal here:

I used a 3.00 because it was the narrowest I could find in 12",
no other reason.

That's the chassis finally finished with all engine mounts,
front suspension and bodywork attachments. Just need to paint
it now and then I can get on with the build.
