Brake M'cyl Question
By: Max Venturi Date: August 3, 2023, 5:35 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
If I remove the complete brass fitting on the back of the m'cyl
in photo 1 is it likely that the banjo bolt on the back of the
m'cyl in photo 2 will fit m'cyl 1. In other words, are the
thread sizes the same?

It's difficult to tell from your photos if the threads are the
same. I would doubt if they are, can you measure them and find
out?

If they are both Japanese/Metric m/c's then they will most
likely be M10 x1.0 or 1.25 pitch. If they are ex Harley or
Meriden Triumph they will be imperial.
Don't know if this chart from Hel brakes is of any help.

I dismantled both m'cyls yesterday. The new Wilwood m'cyl has
Imperial fittings and the motorcycle rear m'cyl on the 'kart has
metric fittings.
I've contacted two companies which supply DIY braided line
fittings asking if they can supply some sort of adaptor to
enable me to fit the existing brake line to the Wilwood unit.
I'll post up the result when/if either of them reply.

To be honest, since its brakes, I'd not muck about with adaptors
and such, just get a new line made up by Hel, Venhill, Goodrich
or the like that fits. Try a local custom bike builder or dealer
they might well make them on site!

Providing one uses quality components and follows the
instructions the home made brake lines are perfectly safe. I've
used them on 200bhp+ cars and I'm still here ;D

I have used BPG motorsport near me a few times. They keep a huge
stock of fittings.
