Brake System Question

My 'kart is fitted with a Kawasaki Ninja ZX600R calliper and I
want to change the master cylinder and improve the actuation.
I've picked up an unused 1/2" Wilwood gokart m'cyl (#260-5520)
which I'd like to use but first I'd like an opinion of whether
this m'cyl has the capacity to put sufficient pressure into the
calliper.
Any thoughts please?
Thanks in advance.

What size are the pistons on the calliper? Is it one or two
pistons? By the look of it, that’s from a rear brake?

I'm having to keep the 'kart outside and under cover at the
moment so I'll have to get back to you on that. If it ever stops
bl :-[ :-[dy raining that is ;D

Some on-line research tells me that the 2011 model had 4-piston
front brakes and a single piston rear. My calliper has a single
piston so that makes it an OEM rear fitment.
The 2021 model has the same size rear rotor and a single piston
calliper so it’s reasonable to assume that Kawasaki kept more or
less the same rear brake during the production run.
So until I can actually measure the diameter of the piston I’m
going to make an educated guess that the braking surface on a
220mm disc would be no more than approx. 50mm wide meaning a
piston diameter of between say 45mm to 50mm.
Do you want to make an educated guess on that or wait until I
can get at the calliper?
PS - I've found a rear piston listed for a 2006 Ninja 600 which
is listed as 38mm diameter:-

Yes that master cylinder should move enough fluid to operate the
calliper. The hydraulic ratio from master cylinder to calliper
isn't huge so it might feel a little heavy under foot. Don't
forget, you'll need to mount it as a floating calliper. I'd
worry that it's under spec'ed and will tend to overheat and
hence fade. It may not provide fantastic stopping power.
Thanks

Thanks Stefan - One obscured bolt head has prevented me from
lifting the calliper off but I've measured the diameter of the
piston as best I can and I'm pretty sure it is 36mm. So that
gives a surface area of 1017.87mm2 for the calliper piston and
122.72mm2 for the m/cyl piston which gives a ratio of 8.29:1.
What would be a typical benchmark ratio for an efficient system?
The calliper is fully floating.
I have a blank page as far as mounting the m/cyl and linkage to
I'm going the fabricate this to get the maximum leverage
possible on the m/cyl piston.

Have you had a look at the article on brake design? There’s a
few examples of the set-ups people have used there.

The only one I could find was on the Tech Forum was this one

/>with the link to the "Cyclekart Brakes"
Is there another article somewhere?
