Gas bottles are heavy, typically the bottle weighs as much as
the gas inside it. GRP mouldings taken off gas bottles on the
other hand................. coincidentally I have a 13 Kg gas
bottle with a small collar, and a quantity of GRP supplies. I
see a mold being taken off said gas bottle, probably a 3 part to
allow for different widths.

Today's skippy-dipping find was this water trough. Flip it over
and it might be what I'm looking for to make top for the
radiator. I'll have a better idea tomorrow when I measure up.

Thanks Nick, good idea.
This is where I've got to so far. The same skip which provided
the water trough also supplied a hopper off a fertilizer
spreader. I've cut this in half and topped it off with the
trough. The shape and proportions are about right so I think
there's a solution here.

Can members have a look at the photo please and note the
sections of framework shown marked with red.
As far as I can see, the only purpose this frame now serves is
supporting the battery tray. The rear part is welded to the
cross piece which supports one of the steering column bearing
but I can't see that it adds any stiffening. The vertical bars
which are attached to the sides of the chassis interfere with
the new bonnet line so I'm inclined to cut the whole thing off
but before I do does anyone see a problem in doing this?
Thanks in advance.[attachimg=1]

Does not look to my eye from those photos in anyway structural,
not in tension, torsion or resisting bending (apart from the
weight of the battery) If you wanted to keep the battery there,
you could get rid of the side bits and extend the long bits to
brace to the side of the upright for the steering bottom
bearing. Put a cross brace on it in thick wire if it needed it
to support the weight of the battery.

Thanks Jim - it's a small battery which could go just about
anywhere. Its sole purpose was to power the GPS speedo so unless
the rules specify a speedo I'm inclined to dispense with it
altogether. Plenty of time to think about this though.

You will find when you are driving it, you don't have time to
look down at the dials, a few set their phone up with a gps ap
and look at the data afterwards. Good looking fake dials are
better for a cyclekart IMHO

My new toy. No bigger and not much heavier than my toaster ;D
Easy to use and ideal for a first time welder like me.

Looks good ..... but can it cope with those really thick end
crusts?
