Brake line lock, hand brake
By: Mark Under Date: June 7, 2023, 3:55 pm

I have been having a bit of trouble starting my cycle kart, it
needs a bit of throttle once it’s gets hot to start.
It’s been made worse by fitting a Juggernaut clutch which
doesn’t have much slack before it launches.
This means once the engine fires it wants to take off like it
did at Stretton.
Chris Loader suggested a line lock on the brakes last week so I
fitted one tonight and it seems to be very effective so
hopefully this will make starting easier and safer. Providing a
very effective handbrake.

Ive fitted one of those as well. I’ve heard they don’t like
being ‘on’ for too long- they heat up and then lose pressure...
But for a temporary lock on the wheels apparently they’re fine.
The plan with mine is to bang it on, hop out the car and connect
a couple bungee cords from the rear wheel spokes to the steering
wheel, then release the pressure. Et voila- parked….. And for
the vice-versa scenario; reach in, press the footbrake by hand,
pop on the lock, remove the bungees, climb in, release the lock
and then wahey were off….

That's a great idea. Shame it wont pass IVA tho... at least not
as the only parking brake.

Looks a interesting solution I had been thinking of some
mechanical connection but like this solution.
Found this :-
HTML https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/295728492463?var=0&mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=710-53481-19255-0&campid=5338268676&toolid=10044&_trkparms=ispr=1&amdata=enc:1ln5chFaiRkGBE5v1BE9T_w12&customid=CjwKCAjwm4ukBhAuEiwA0zQxkwjG0_rbiCSvF3SE1D9y0sCACBR5K_oIHjEkUWhDWED9iwh9VuYTahoC5FUQAvD_BwE
This is said to auto release when the brake is repressed which
sounds handy.
Will let you know how it goes when it arrives.

Aye, that’s what I’ve fitted. I’ll also report back, hopefully
tomorrow once I’ve given the Riley a first test spin.

Quick review- don’t buy the cheap Chinese one. It’s cack, and
leaks from the seal. Nice idea, waste of money.

I purchased one from Pioneer 4x4,
HTML https://www.pioneer4x4.com/product/brake-line-lock/
It’s a bit more expensive than eBay but it does work and hold
very well.

To be fair that does look at least 800% more rugged than the
eBay one. It’s made of cheese, at best.
