       Redbeards Garage, Road to horsepower.

       Morning all.
I thought this might be of interest to the CycleKart community
as it has more information than anything I have seen so far on
building engines to create more power.
We have a limit on the power we can produce. This is something I
       agree with totally.
Having said that, very little actual data is out there as to
what performance tweak does what, and, how that relates to real
life drive-ability of a CycleKart or any vehicle. (that I can
find - a lot of anecdotal stuff, but few real numbers)
These new videos from Redbeards garage actually put real figures
to tweaks tested both on a dyno and on a minibike.
They have interesting results (such as a silencer attached to a
header added power!, A billet flywheel with advanced timing
reduced power, especially at lower revs, carbs make the biggest
       difference)
I think these videos would be helpful as, ideally we need to
reach a drive-able 10hp limit with the power and torque in a
usable range while not blowing the budget or the engine
I will link the first one, the others follow and he has yet (to
press) to release more in the series.
       Tell me your thoughts please.

Thanks for posting this up Jim - Very interesting and as you say
little data out there what does what. I also think the addition
of the CVT makes everything a bit more unknown, add gearing
differences and it all gets a bit of a giant head scratch, but
great to follow someones progress in a controlled way

Totally agree about the TAV30 throwing all sorts of things to
think about Andy, and I am doing a lot of that after watching
the videos. He did a q+a session live and it seems he has his
work cut out with what he is planning on the Dyno in terms of
videos. I will be following it with interest

A very interesting new video from Redbeard's garage where he
tests a Predator Ghost engine. This engine is becoming very
popular in the states, and I can see it possibly coming to our
shores soon, a similar thing is offered by Westbank wholesale,
although I can't see it being identical and only seems available
in 20mm shaft. Watch this space.
It seems to be running a CDI unit limited to 6000RPM. Puts out
just shy of 10HP and has most of the torque early, great for
cyclekarts and their relatively massive wheels.
It would make a good out of the box engine
       Thoughts please

Along the same lines is this engine. Looking to buy as it would
look to give near 10 bhp out of the box for a reasonable price?

Just be aware Christopher that the shaft on these is 20mm. A
TAV30 is 3/4" or 19.05mm so unless you manage to source a 20mm
TAV30, please share if you do, it means going down the route of
a kart clutch or re sizing the output shaft.

I have screen shot and collated all his graphs so far with
comments on a document for comparison. I think the series will
       continue, but not provide much
of use to cyclekarters from here on in as mods are getting too
       powerful now.
It seems the formatting of this post has gone a little haywire
as I can't see half of it and have no way to scroll on my dektop
       P.C.
Here is a link to a google document with the graphs for all
       interested.
