Survival of the fittest
By: Scorpion Date: January 21, 2014, 12:06 am
---------------------------------------------------------
Granabald, some of the most violent, ruthless criminals in the
universe were abandoned on this hellish planet. For those who
shouted their innocence to anyone who would listen, it was the
equivalent of living in their worst nightmare, those were the
ones who didn't last very long. Others saw it as paradise, they
found it exhilarating to hunt while being hunted, to crush their
prey while looking for a weakness in their predators. Though he
didn't exactly fit into any of the two social groups on the
planet, this dark, desolate planet was now home to the infamous
bounty hunter known as Scorpion; who, despite his best efforts
to keep to himself, always seemed to find himself on someone's
wanted list. Tends to happen when you're responsible for putting
most of those criminals on that planet in the first place.
This time, he was being hunted by the Vlisoconian known by the
name Ketrrov, a seven foot reptilian creature who walked on two
legs. Bones protruded from his elbows and wrists; bones which
whether through evolution, or their own devices, were sharp
enough to cut through steel and were shaped like curved blades.
Glowing blue eyes sat above what resembled a beak. More of these
curved bone blades ran down the back of his head and along his
tail and on top of all this, a hide so thick and tough that most
types of bullets simply ricocheted off him. The moment Ketrrov
found out Rizio was on Granabald, his blood began to boil, and
the poor fool who had delivered the message was swiftly torn in
half with one quick swipe of his arm blades.
Rizio moved swiftly through the dense forests, using the thick
shrubs and damp soil to mask his scent knowing full well that
the Vlisconians were excellent hunters and though they usually
hunted in packs, it was no easy task to take one on alone. He
just needed a little more time, his special project was nearing
completion, soon he would be off this miserable planet and those
responsible for putting him there would feel the full extent of
his fury.

Raizel was in his usual area, a domain that was
rarely bothered by the criminals that lingered about the planet.
His reputation was enough to earn his peace while he served his
lifetime sentence. His heritage had "blessed" him with a long
life and little need for nourishment... so he spent his days
waiting, usually. What he was waiting for he didn't quite know.
'Is it that you're trying to punish yourself?'
The woman behind him could only be seen by him, and usually
she'd kept silent in his presence... but the sound of her voice
made his drop his face into his hands, a vain attempt to hide
his shame. After a few moments of driving the pads of his thumbs
painfully into his temples and eyes, the woman's voice
disappeared, though her form still lingered behind him to
constantly remind him of his sin.
The silence that he longed for was broken quickly when he could
hear the sound of a chase not far away. A loud growl echoed in
his throat as he stood up, adjusting his coat slightly. It was
rare for him to have visitors, but he knew that he needed to
deal with them swiftly and effectively unless he wanted more to
show up. He paced through his section of jungle, uncaring of his
surroundings until he heard a muffled footstep. He turned his
attention to the clearing that the sound came from, his pitch
black halo appearing over his head on it's own. When Raizel
stepped out, he came face to drooling scales with a Vlisoconian.
He sighed in annoyance, hating that he'd have to deal with this.
"Your mistake was stepping into my territory without my
permission, Vlisoconian. I thought it was known not to wander
these parts... Turn back now, and I won't have to show you your
sin."

When the hushed silence fell over the dense jungle, Scorpion
thought maybe he had lost track of his pursuer. This moment of
peace however, was very short lived.
The Vlisoconian let out his shrilly battle cry which seemed to
shake the jungle itself. Scorpion got as close to the ground as
possibly, trying to use the think over head shrubbery as cover,
the forest around him laid quiet as he awaited his pursuer's
attack. Though it never came. Scorpion got to his feet and
scanned the area as best he could.
Loud crashes echoed through the jungle, large trees were falling
in an area not too far from where he stood. Had Ketrrov found
someone else to hunt? Whatever the case, this was no longer his
problem. Or so he thought. As he turned to put some distance
between him and the raging battle, he came face to face with
something else. A woman standing silently behind him, her
unblinking, ash gray eyes seemed to be staring into his very
soul. She tilted her head to a side before turning her gaze over
to the area where the trees had previously fallen. Without a
word, she simply turned and started walking toward the
battlefield.
His every instinct was telling him to run, to just get out of
there, but something about the spirit he had just encountered
was simply too intriguing.
The woman didn't speak a single word as they walked, she just
kept her eyes fixed in front of her.

The Vlisoconian proved to be more than a little bit
of a pain. He'd brushed off Raizel's threat with a loud battle
cry, declaring his own kind of war that, whether he liked it or
not, Raizel found himself on the other side of it. It lunged
forward, it's deadly bone claws aiming to remove the angel's
head from his shoulders. A quick duck and dive to the left
managed to save the body part, but the creature's counter attack
was as swift as the the original attack and it drove it's large
foot into Raizel's side. He saw the attack coming, and knew he
could have rolled out of the way, but let the harsh blow land,
and send him skidding across the clearing.
"A murderer... or I suppose a better word would be hunter,
right? There's more to it than that though, or else you'd just
be in prison... no, to be here you'd have to have done something
truly sinful..."
Raizel straightened himself, panting slightly and gripping his
ribs. It seemed that at least one or two were broken. How
inconvenient. He knew the injury would slow his reactions at
least a little bit, but the snarling monster didn't seem the
sportsmanship type, and let out another battle cry at Raizel's
accusation.
"Don't fret. I don't judge, we're all here for the same sins.
Mine are probably greater than yours, in truth... but that
doesn't mean you get away with it. Nobody can escape their
sins."
The orb of light that formed over Raizel's head went unnoticed
by the creature as it lunged again at him. Raizel made no move
to dodge, instead he stood firm as the giant creature descended
on him for a fatal blow.

Surprisingly, when Rizio came to the edge of the clearing, the
entire clearing was filled with people. Spirits to be more
accurate. This was the largest gathering of spirits he had ever
seen in his life and for all of them to be here, meant that they
were unable to rest in peace. What's more is that there were
many more standing in the branches of the trees, all looking
down at the battle raging in the clearing. It seemed like there
were enough spirits there to fill a at least a large city.
In the center there were two figures, the menacing Vlisoconian,
and a smaller figure that looked humanoid in shape and size,
though Rizio was unable to make out much except for silver-ish
hair and red eyes. There weren't many people who would try
fighting a Vlisoconian. In fact, besides himself, Rizio only
knew of three other people who entered combat with a Vlisoconian
and survived.
Ketrrov jumped high into the air, he turned his body at the peak
of his jump and went into a nose dive. As he fell, he pulled his
right arm back, his hand balled into a fist. Another shrill cry
escaped his beak as he drew closer to his mark, he thrust his
arm forward with the wrist blade turned toward his enemy, seemed
as though he was attempting to split who ever he was fighting
right down the middle.

Raizel noticed another arrival in his land, and
found himself locking eyes with a man clad in heavy armor. If
the man was trying to be stealthy, he'd chosen the wrong attire.
Raizel stared at that man as the deadly creature continued to
fall.
"And it's that sin of yours that will be the death of you..."
It was only now that Raizel broke eye contact with the knight,
and returned to the Vlisoconian. The white orb that had formed
above Raizel's head grew brighter, then launched itself at the
beast. It tore right through the tough scale exoskeleton of the
thing, and straight through it's rotten heart before growing
brighter, possibly blinding the bystander for a moment. When the
light dimmed, the Vlisoconian was dead in the dirt with Raizel
standing above him. His wings were visible, seeming to suck the
light out of the sky as did his halo. He was staring at the
knight apathetically.
"...and what about you? What are your sins, boy?"
Visually, the man looked older than Raizel, but the angel knew
better than to assume that was a fact. Not many races were as
blessed with longevity as his was. He considered attacking the
man right away, but he'd killed enough for one lifetime, and
would have preferred to avoid it.

Rizio put his hand up to shield his eyes, only lowering his hand
when he heard a thud.
"That was different..."
He also noticed that only a small few of the spirits that had
been watching the battle had disappeared, those were most likely
the ones that found peace when Ketrrov was slain. Rizio was a
bit disturbed that there were still enough spirits there to fill
a metropolis. What kind of man could possibly have so many
bodies to his name? The only conclusion that made sense to Rizio
was that he was a scientist who had tested biochemicals on an
entire city, murdering many innocent people.
It was weird hearing someone who had been sent to Granabald go
on about sins, only the worst of the worst were sent there, and
with this many bodies to his name it was safe to assume that his
sins were pretty bad themselves. Rizio raised his hands,
gesturing toward the hundreds upon hundreds of souls around
them.
"I'd say my sins are nothing compared to yours. The number of
spirits here who can't rest in peace until they see you dead is
astounding, I've never seen so many lost souls in one place. "
Rizio lowered his hands and brought his gaze back down to the
silver haired man.
"That woman... The one beside you with the purple eyes and long
pony tails... She must have been close to you. She's the only
one willing to stand near you."

Raizel quickly found himself fascinated by the
knight. He spoke of spirits that surrounded Raizel, causing the
misunderstood angel to glance around the clearing and into the
trees. He could feel them, but not see them. His power granted
him the ability to sense his own sins enough that he knew they
were always around, following and judging him... but why? They
had to have known he didn't do it...
"Few have sinned more than me, but that fact doesn't forgive
your own sins. We're both on this planet, aren't we? You know as
well as I do what that means..."
The man brought attention to the biggest sin Raizel had... and
it was Lucretia. His fists balled in his pockets as he described
her, and a firm frown formed on his features. The knight was
surprisingly perceptive.
"My name is Raizel Godfrey. Who are you? I apologize in advance
if that should be common knowledge... I've been here a rather
long time, and don't really get out much."

Rizio made no effort to hide how surprised he was to hear the
name Raziel Godfrey, though that look disappeared as quickly as
it had appeared. It was one of the possibilities that crossed
his mind when he was trying to make sense of the large number of
souls looming over this man, but Raziel Godfrey destroyed his
planet over one hundred years ago, even if he was still alive,
there is no way he would look that young.
"Raziel Godfrey? Why would you use such an alias? He's one of
the most despicable criminals ever..."
But then again, there were some people who liked to kill, so it
wasn't too farfetched that there might have been a Raziel copy
cat lurking around. For all he knew there could have been
hundreds of Raziel copy cats across the cosmos, there was no
telling how far his legend had spread. Whatever the case, this
man was not to be taken lightly. Though he wasn't sure how the
man claiming to be Raziel had done it, the fact still stood that
he had just single handedly taken down a Vlisoconian.
"My name is Rizio Arklight.... Better known as Scorpion. Bounty
hunter... I'm the one responsible for putting that thing lying
at your feet on this hellish nightmare of a planet. Ironically,
I ended up here myself... Ain't karma a bitch."

Raizel couldn't hide the chuckle that came as he
heard the man question his motives for going by such a
despicable alias. It probably was rather unbelievable to an
outsider... but it was interesting to hear that his tale had
been widespread enough to get to this young bounty hunter's
ears, even though he wasn't alive at the time.
"A name's just a name. Don't read into it so much."
Raizel listened to the mans vague explanation of who he was and
found his attention grabbed. So he went from cop to crook? How
could that have happened? Raizel could already tell that the man
was not like anyone else on this planet, no... he wasn't evil.
It was a hunch, really, but Raizel could generally tell every
time he looked at someone here that they were scum... but this
boy was different.
"Would you like some tea? I've had plenty of time to set up my
own little... area. In this clearing. I wouldn't call it a home,
because you should know as well as I do this planet is not a
home."
