Not always. Could be a very minor injury or a general illness
       call. "common cold"

Always no. It should be a dispatcher call. Then like every other
call if you need advaced you call for it. I fwhen in doubt call
for more help you can always send them back.

There is not always the need for a paramedic for a pediatric
case. The basic emt needs to assess the incident first before
       jumping to conclusions.

i believe that als should be called for all pediatric pts, but
that could be the mother in me speaking. And at the same time, I
also feel that many paramedics specialie in the pediatric
       area...

I think it depends on the nature of the call, not all situations
       you would need one

I would say no you do not have to call them everytime. Because
you don't know what you have until you get there, and you may be
able to handle the situation without a paramedic. I will
determine if one is needed during my assessment and have one
dispatched or make sure the ambulance in route has one on board.

i believe that sending a paramedic to ped calls is a great idea.
Peds crash quickly and we all know that means. Is there a
protocal that states when a paramedic is needed to treat a ped.

It depends greatly on the nature of the call. A simple
laceration that shouldn't even go in a ambulance should be able
to be handled by the basic EMT, Although some cases the
paramedic takes it just due to the experience and or state
pointing to the paramedic for peds calls.
