Legal Stuff

Your patient is a 17 year male who was involved in a low speed
MVA. He states he is fine and does not require treatment or
transport. Can you allow him to sign off (refuse)?

So, if he is a minor and there is nothing wrong with him what
are you going to do with him if you can not allow him to sign
off?

You should try to convince him to go get checked out anyway as
this is in his best interest (even though he is a minor, you
have implied consent). You should also try to reach a
parent/legal guardian. If he still refuses treatment and a
parent is close by, they can sign the RMA form. If this is not
feasible (ie the parents are far away/you cannot reach them) you
should contact medical control.

This patient cannot sign off refusing medical aid. Per NYS basic
protocol the minimum age is 18 y/o. Therefore a parent or legal
gaurdian must be contacted and be informed and allowed to
intercede on the patients behalf.
