NAMI is an organization that does peer to peer counseling for
friends and family of people who have Bipolar. It is a support
organization for people who are the family members and friends
of people who have Bipolar. It is nationwide in the US.
The classes cover other mental illnesses as well.
The classes cover medications a patient might be on. My mom is
taking the class and she got a big thick book on medications.
She got a big binder with all sorts of info. She got a book on
Bipolar. She has been given a boatload of info and the class is
not even over. Her class meets every other week and is 12 weeks
long. She is getting an in depth education on mental illness
overall and Bipolar in particular.
It is a place for friends and family members to come together
and talk and commensurate about what it is like to deal with us.
It is also a place for them to get educated and find a better
way to cope with us.
