       Pottery, Ceramics, and the Like
By: Neamhain Blackmailer Date: January 24, 2015, 2:45 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have always loved to make pottery, ceramics, and the like. I
loved to sculpt. Unfortunately, I am no longer allowed to play
with clay. Even still, I like to admire it and think of the
       different things I could make.
I have not made anything for a while, so I will be unable to
post new things on here. I will, however, post some of my old
work. It is a far cry from good, but you will just have to bear
with me. I was still new when I was forced to stop.
This is a place to post your own works, comment on other
people's work, and just talk about pottery, ceramics, and the
like. If you post someone else's work, be sure to accredit it to
them. Do not spam, get off-topic, our post potentially offensive
things. If you break any rules, I will request that the
administrator or a moderator remove your post.
The first thing I will post is the first thing I ever made. It
was a few years ago. It is an abstract Americana candle lantern.
I gave it to my mother for her birthday. Whenever we light a
candle inside if it, the stars shine. It is around 6 inches high
and is a stoneware coil pot.

'Tis very nice. The blunted edges go well with the abstract
design, which still seems planned and worked according to those
       plans.

Very nice. I like how the painting on the outside looks like wax
dripping down the side of a candle, it reflects what is
       happening on the inside.
I've never really tried my hand at pottery of any sort however,
so I have nothing to display.

I've made a bit of pottery with manufactured clay, but it never
gave me the satisfaction as the one I made with real, organic
clay from the bottom of a lake. It broke when I was taking it
home, but I'm fine with that. Here are some pictures:

Not really. The lake wasn't that deep (at least, the part I got
it from wasn't that deep, only about 4-5 feet, but the lake
itself is the 7th deepest lake in the world) and I scraped off
the clay with flat skipping stones. I'm planning on doing it
again this year. Any ideas on what I should make?

Thankee kindly for the compliments. I'm glad you two both
noticed some of the deliberate features. As far as the glaze
       goes...
I used a watery sponge to create a unique texture. It is like
there are random bits of sand on tiles. I thought this would
make the difference between the red and dripping colors better.
The red glaze was an undercoat of red glaze followed by a clear
overcoat. The blue and white glazes already had the overcoat
mixed in them. That allowed me to drip the glazes down the side
like wax. I dripped it over the red glaze that had overglaze
applied. Basically, I put overglaze on overglaze, a big no-no,
but I had faith that it would work, and somehow it did. I used
the two types of glaze for the red so it would not be as glossy
as I wanted the red to kind of be in the background.
It's a lot easier to see what I'm talking about in real life.
And as far as you people go who say you don't play with clay,
you can still post pictures of works around your living space or
       from the interweb.

I use clay to make little pellets for shooting at things (like
       cats) with my slingshot. ;D
