It'd be worse with the lights on. I'd have thrice the brightness
- the light, the computer and the sun at my back.

More light in all, yes, but since it would be more even, your
eyes won't have to adjust as much, hence they won't hurt as
much.

Yes, it would. You just need to make sure you have light in the
room, artificial or natural. Of course, it's pitch black here,
so wasn't thinking along those lines.
