Asterisk Area
Greetings, Inrazimadians!
First up, I'd just like to clarify a few things – most, if not
all of you, have already noticed the reintroduction of the
normal title bar. This is for one reason, and one reason alone;
from the 20th of May to the 11th of June, I was confined to the
terrible touchscreen of an iPad – in an extremely similar
situation to May, 2015, without the added horror of Mobile Mode.
My computer's screen was broken, and while the computer itself
worked, it simply wasn't possible to use it, at all. As you can
guess, it's now been repaired, which has allowed me to fix the
few glaring aesthetic problems that plagued the forum. It also
means that I can get back to the work that should have been done
in March, for the anniversary, but we won't dwell on that now.
Instead, we'll get to the point of the thread . . .
For some among you, the title had already filled you with dread,
and rightly so. There are changes coming to the Asterisk Area,
and they are certainly not likeable. Please, do bear with me
whilst I explain, and try to refrain from screaming at the top
of your lungs on the discussion thread linked down below.
Since the creation of the Asterisk Area after in November, it's
been an uphill battle. Almost from the start, we imposed a
"cull," of sorts; a restriction on threads and posts to stop the
Text Menace, spam. The four line rule was introduced as a part
of that cull to prevent one-liners advancing a user's post count
and doing nothing to help the post count. If you look at the
Asterisk Area now, you'll see that the rule didn't actually do a
whole lot.
The cull also meant that we weren't allowing any threads to get
through without prior permission, and yet we were very lenient
and denied a very small number of threads, which allowed the
number of them to escalate far beyond the limit we were
intending to impose, therefore making the "cull" useless.
So, we're getting rid of it. Gone. No more four-line rule, and
threads can go right on ahead. While spam is still prohibited,
and we will call you out on continued pointless one-liners, you
don't have to pretend to be complying with the cull rules
whenever I come snooping.
However . . .
Leniency comes with a cost. By the 31st of August, all posts in
the Asterisk Area will be made non-counting to both the overall
forum post count, and the personal post counts of all users.
You read correctly, and while a great deal of you will be
shaking your fist in anger, it is not only me who has made this
decision. Although by a very close margin, the Council has voted
and decided that this action is in the best interests of the
forum and the community as a whole.
While this will be a large blow to the post counts of many, we
hope that users will not be discouraged from posting and
roleplaying in the Asterisk Area. To be honest, my original plan
for the Area was for it to be non-counting, but I second-guessed
myself at the last minute, which led us to our current
situation.
After that bombshell, we'll move onto something else. You'll
notice that many boards have become inactive, and that the
average post count, both per month and per day, has decreased
drastically. Come on, everyone. Let's bring the forum back from
slumber. Now that there'll be no posts counted in the Asterisk
Area, you all have an incentive to post elsewhere.
As always, the discussion thread will be located here.
