A New Australian Flag
By: Tux Date: January 30, 2016, 9:22 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
For too long have we lived under another nation's pride, a
random star, Alpha 1 Crux, Beta Crux, Gamma Crux, Delta Crux,
Epsilon Crux on a Blue Pantone 280 backdrop. For too long have
we lost our dignity as a multicultural nation to some weird
symbol from another country. Too long have we have not had a
thread about this on a forum comprised of mainly Aussies! Too
long the symbol for the nation has let us down. And too long, we
have done nothing about it! And yet still we can do nothing but
talk about!
So umm....I guess we talk about it???
List of officially considered new flags:
HTML https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_proposed_Australian_flags
A websites for patriots:
HTML http://www.ausflag.com.au
Talk, debate, discuss and argue, and we will see, who has what
it has to have their name recorded in history as the designer of
the New Australian flag!

Don't the Brits control your country to some extent?

It's a rather complicated system, but I'll attempt to explain it
to the best of my ability.
Federation in 1901, the Statute of Westminster Adoption Act in
1942 and the Australia Act in 1986 effectively erased British
control over Australia. There is an almost identical situation
in Canada and New Zealand — each country is part of the
Commonwealth of Nations, meaning that Queen Elizabeth II is our
monarch and head of state. This does not mean, however, that the
King or Queen of the United Kingdom is the ruler of our nation.
Elizabeth II is both the Queen of Australia, and the Queen of
the United Kingdom, for the titles are seperate. The situation
is the same in New Zealand and Canada.
The Queen is represented in Australia, Canada and New Zealand
not by the Prime Minister of those nations, but by the
Governor–General, who essentially acts as an apolitical head of
state. The Governor–General can strip the Prime Minister of
their office and essentially "restart" the federal Parliament,
although this is unusual and has only been done once.
As the it is the same in Canada and New Zealand, Britain has
little to no control as to how we run our nation. Canada has
already changed their flag while remaining under "British rule,"
and New Zealand is soon holding a referendum as to if they
should do the same. We are independent from Britain, which means
that the current flag, one displaying British superiority, is
irrelevant and unreflective of our nation. The blue ensign was
only made official by Robert Menzies in 1954, used only because
the red ensign could be taken as communist.
We truly do need a new flag, because the current flag screams
"British colony" at everyone who gazes upon it.

Yes. In Asian vocabulary, we already have word for those people.
I'll try my best...

I see. It is a wee strange that a foreigner would be the monarch
of a country, but I understand why it is so.
Given that, I do think the Aussie flag should be changed to
better represent what Australia is. My previous ignorance is
just support for that.

For this to happen, I almost wish that Clive Palmer becomes PM.
"Where's Tony?"
"Oh he's there. It's just that he sits behind Clive so you can't
see him."

Indeed. I was browsing an Australian flag discussion on Reddit,
and right at the bottom of the page with a multitude of
downvotes, was a comment saying something along the lines of "In
my opinion, Australia will forever and always be a British
colony until they become an independent nation. Convict colonies
don't deserve their own flags."
I shake my head at the people who do not realise that we gained
our independence over one hundred years ago, well before the
likes of modern-day Russia and Germany.

It's hard for people to believe that a bunch of convicts could
be civil enough to have their own country.
