What is the impact on quality of care by using Stroke REDS servi

       ---------------------------------------------------------
In its inaugural year, 2009, the Stroke REDS team made a
significant improvement in transfer of care arrangements and
experience for stroke patients in Camden. On average each person
being discharged with Stroke REDS is discharged 10 days earlier
than from acute or inpatient stroke units.
The length of stay of admissions for stroke were examined to see
if there were any differences between the period before the
early stroke discharges were offered and the period during which
this intervention took place. In the pre-intervention period
(admissions where the start date was between April 2005 and
December 2008) there were a total of 847 admissions identified
where Camden PCT was the commissioner. In the post-intervention
period (admissions in 2009) there were 246 admissions.
A Mann-Whitney U-test was performed on the data to judge whether
the difference between the two groups’ LOS could be considered
significant. The test showed a significant difference between
       the LOS of the pre- and post-intervention groups (U = 95457, p =
0.025). The new service has maintained or improved clinical
quality in Camden and is likely to do so elsewhere.
