Slade certainly played very well, the onus on him now is to keep
playing very well.
I didn't think we would out-muscle Ireland or that the new-look
midfield would be cohesive.

Very pleased with that result. Those I was a bit worried about
all played well. Let's hope for more of the same next week, and
for the french team of the second half

Great win. Amazing play, from some unexpected players
But you don't win a RWC with a starting XV. Eddie will keep
Robshaw, Care and Brown around but not feel like he has to give
them time pre tournament. He knows that they can slot straight
back in for depth in the world cup or for injury replacement
whenever. You need to have options even outside of a 33 man
squad. Why start them now if he can trial other players who
might, thanks to rugby's huge recent injury rate, have to start
or finish a RWC campaign?
If you look at the positions- at 15 he is trialling Daly, who
had his first excellent game at FB. He knows Brown could easily
start a RWC final. Watson wasn't amazing at FB in the past, so
he probably wants one more option, likely Nowell or Ashton.
He has a bunch of great wingers, depth from Daly, Watson,
Nowell, May and probably Ashton but I suspect he wants to see
Ashton play a bit. Depth behind that looks ok with Cokanasiga,
maybe Roko, maybe Earle.
Centres, Slade looked good, Loz is a maybe, Manu looks back,
Te'o does a job (averagely). He needs more options here, and
Joseph, much like our 3 players above, is proven and could just
step in at last minute if needed. I think he will at least start
blooding Trinder or Marchant in the warm ups just in case.
10, we have Farrell and Ford. Slade as an option and maybe Loz.
Not sure if he sees Cips as a "step in" option or as no option
at all. I think he's gonna want to look, at least, at Joe
Simmonds and Smith some more.
9. Care and Youngs are known and in the squad. He needs to know
who adds cover best out of Robson, Spencer etc . Wrigglesworth
is another step in option.
This applies throughout the squad. Discarded but proven players
aren't necessarily discarded and I think Brown, Robshaw and Care
have a pick part in his plans.

I actually don't think Robshaw will go as things stand. Wilson
just looked like a much more energetic version (like a Robshaw
of 5/6 years ago) against Ireland and the 6 shirt is now his to
lose. Shields will probably go as well with the RFU having blown
so much smoke up his butt to bring him over here in the first
place. After that you want players who can play across the back
row - a Clifford or a Simmonds. He's not going to take three 6s
(okay Wilson can also play 8, but shouldn't at international
level) - especially given Itoje and Lawes can technically also
be slotted in there if need be (as much as I hate it when they
are). Wouldn't be surprised if DC didn't make the cut either.
Sinckler definitely, Brownie almost definitely,
Clifford/Robshaw/Care maybes at best.

At least one of Eddie's ideal squad backrow will be injured for
the RWC anyway, England's backrow attrition rate is insane

I thought he was one of our best players against Saracens, and
even then he's played well in his previous matches this season
and on his last England cap, which was only 9 months ago or
something. Hardly past it!
Brown is the form FB in the league with only Goode for company

I'd like to see England play the same XV against France (if
Itoje is out, would swap Launchbury in and keep Lawes for impact
at 19), with Clifford on the bench over Hughes, low threshold
whether things are going really well or it's tight to swap
things up and finish the match with
Genge, LCD, Williams, Launch, Lawes, Wilson, Clifford, Billy,
Robson, Slade/Ford, Ashton, Manu, Daly, May, Nowell
See how Daly does in a back up position (possibly his actual
best position), Ashton on the wing, how we do when Farrell is
out, Clifford as the impact all-backrower (would also consider
seeing how he does with Billy off and at 8) and Nowell as a FB
option

He puts in good performances (not great) at club level. For me,
he's rarely done much in an England shirt for a long time now.
Strong in the scrum, great at staring at rucks, seemingly
incapable of running at more than a canter.

The RFU didn't have anything to do with Shields. He signed for
Wasps and Eddie was very keen, because Eddie loves anyone from
NZ or related to Super Rugby.
Wilson offers many fine attributes but he's not quite the "right
man right place" player that Robshaw is and doesn't have his
handling skills; however he absolutely should be considered the
man in possession and his workrate matches Robshaw's for sure.
I'd be surprised if Care didn't make it but not amazed.
