I have a young family where the eldest is just about able to sit
through 2/3 of a game without losing interest, the youngest
about 1/3. Quite aside from putting myself through the purgatory
of an away trip with two kids who don't really have any interest
in watching the game the cost is fairly prohibitive. I could
attend alone, but since I already spend x days a season at the
Stoop that would be asking for a frosty week afterwards.

It was a very small turn out Saturday but agree distance, Xmas
break etc were all factors.
Was a very big away following at Treviso a few weeks ago

Quins in Europe is going from strength to strength. 300 + this
year twice and, why not, we’ve had two great venues. Looking
forward to Agen where the numbers may be down about but will
still put the Prem away attendances into the shadows. So, we can
do do it, no doubt.
SiB is quite right to raise this issue, right now, at this
moment. It’s a challenge to us and one we should take up.
Frankly, other than Europe this year I hadn’t thought I’d want
to do an away Prem game this season but now I really do.
We should go for a big attend at Bath following the 2 home
games. There’s a reasonable chance we’ll still be 3rd and Bath
away could be pivotal. It would be great for the team if we
could do say 200 at Bath making a racket (especially at a ground
where you can often hear a pin drop).

Away support is far more than most supporters can manage.
Given only a few thousand away fans go to premier league
football matches, given the relative levels of support im not
sure I’d expect any growth at all.
Lives and demographics have changed vastly since blokes could
just go to sport every Saturday - my wife would castrate me if i
wanted to go to away games as well; but also I wouldn’t want to
miss my family time anyway.
Away fans were always a certain kind of person - not many are
willing to commit that much time to supporting a team.
Also we are v much a family club, so it’s almost more ingrained
in those who do come - I don’t know any of my fellow Quins
regulars who travel.
I’d be amazed if any team sees an increase in away support.

I wonder if it would help if we had a "sticky" message for ride
sharing for away games.
I went to Bristol and Glaws on the coach this season and I was
interested in the Tigers game - but the coach didn't run.
As there are probably loads of people who live near the Stoop,
ride sharing should be possible. In the past I have used
blablacar - which is amazing when it works.
I wanted to go to the Falcons game as my buddy who sits next to
me at the Stoop is from Newcastle and he was going to sort out a
place to stay, etc. But, the game was too close to New Year for
him. Last year, the game coincided with wife's birthday. maybe
next year.
Ride sharing should be relatively cheap and it is more
environmentally friendly - so we should promote it.
For info, if you have never used blablacar. You set up a
journey. e.g. round trip from the Stoop to Bth Rec Ground). You
mark it for manual approval (which means that you can manually
accept passengers so that you make sure that they are Quins fans
going to the game). You give details of what seats are
available.
Then, other people book and pay online and you get the money.
I'm not sure how parking is paid for - but, there are probably
options for extras (e.g. tolls).
The ride most not be for profit - basically, the other
passengers are just contributing to the costs.
Blabla cover the insurance. It is a really popular way of
getting round in France. I have used it for travelling from
London to France and it is very good value (i.e. very cheap) and
quite a sociable way of travelling. I really recommend it. (I
am not associated with the company in any way)
