RG Snyman has been impressive this season. Would be a great
signing. I'd also like Merrick to stay, but he needs more
consistency. Perhaps playing alongside someone like Snyman would
heein that respect.

It was mentioned Merrick is off to France (Clermont). He has
been here long enough and never really established himself. I
like the idea of Quality over quantity in the squad. Take Alofa
and Walker, both decent players. Walker been here a while and
again, not really established himself as a consistent winger.
Lose him and Alofa and bring in a top quality winger to push the
good wingers we have. Luamanu and Wallace likewise, bring in a
quality back row and create competition. Of course you need
depth in the squad but looking at our squad I think there is
money that can be put to better use elsewhere.

Merrick has played alongside Horwill and it doesn't seem to have
done much. Can ge very good, but is often very average.
I'm not sure I'm so fussed about bringing in a new 10. Great if
we can, but the cash could be better spent elsewhere.
If Lambert retires and Boyce goes, I think we need another
loosehead. Auterac is ok but I wouldn't want him starting
regularly if Marler gets injured. Not sure who we've got in the
academy, but we'd be stretched without replacing 2 outgoing
props.
I'd like Waters to come back and push for regular first team
appearances.
If Walker and Alofa go, then we need Visser to stay (and I
believe he has another year left)

I'd like somebody like Steenson to come in and help develop
Smith and Lang.
You heard it here first.

Someone with his skill and game management yes... but he'll be
35 by the end of the season!
I think there are a few essential positions that need bolstering
but fly half and lock are the most important for me. We've never
filled the boots of Kohn, even with Horwill (who's been great
when he has played, but hasn't played enough).
Fly-half wise, it's a tricky one because there's nobody
immediately available off the top of my head that I'd want! But
they need a good 4+ years of experience starting games against
top opposition, decent GK % and able to control a game. Somebody
like Bernard Foley would be perfect, though I think he's
re-signed with the Waratahs until 2020 or 2021.

Unfortunately Horwill doesn't seem to have played much in a long
time. Certainly this season he's been absent almost permanently.
He's quality, but he's needed on the pitch.
I'll be sad to see Alofa and Luamanu leave. Alofa is a better
player than he gets credit for, and I think we never got the
best from big Mat. If we lose them, I wish them well.

I think the Cat fills your criteria for a fly half - just hasn’t
really worked out for him.

You'd think that Cat would fulfill those criteria, but
unfortunately I didn't see much in the way of control against
Bath just now.

17-29, sadly another loss in the shield. I thought the team we
had out looked pretty strong. Should we be concerned that we
don't seem to be that competitive in the shield? I'm just
thinking strength of squad etc.
