Gustard's 2nd Season

With the "it's not actually my team yet" comments we had during
JK's tenure (quite rightly so) it got me thinking, what will
Gustard change during the offseason and who will he look to
offload/bring in to make it his team?
In terms of what we need, I think we should be after signing an
established fly-half and a dependable lock as an absolute
minimum. Lang has been good and so has Smith, but I feel we
won't beat top opposition on a regular basis with either....
just yet. Though I certainly wouldn't want to lose Smith.
Letting players go, it seems that PG doesn't seem to rate:
Wallace, Luamanu, Visser, Walker, Alofa or R Chis - so any of
them could be out of the door. I wouldn't want any of those to
go really but certainly not Wallace or Walker.
Any further thoughts on the positions PG will recruit in and if
so, which type of player will he opt for in said position?!

Well according to the mostly 100% reliable arniepie - Walker,
Alofa and Luamanu already have clubs agreed. Ideally we will
dump Wallace as well, he’s not the player he once appeared to
be. Get the impression Visser just isn’t fitting in - and didn’t
for JK either, think he’s a bit unconventional. Won’t miss any
of them really.
There was that print piece that talked about Gustard changing up
our pack - so excited about potential lock and hooker
announcements.
As for names - not a clue.
Ideally we’d get a 9 and 10.
Can we afford them all? Doubt it.

Alofa has played a fair bit this season. Out of that lot I
wouldn't be too gutted if any of them left. Walker, Ross
Chisholm and Wallace have all been really good for us at times
but none of them are realistically pushing for starting spots
anymore. All useful squad members but never pushed on from early
potential
Walker liked a tweet earlier from someone saying she couldn't
understand why he wasn't starting or getting a fair chance.
Maybe he was just appreciating the support, or maybe he's fed
up.
2, 4/5 and 9 are key

I agree with signing a established 10, with Lang & Smith
rotating. Especially Smith being a youngster, don’t want to
break him early. Would imagine the Cat being a marquee player?
So would free up a marquee slot there. Anyone know who the other
marquee is? Saili?
Would be a shame if Walker goes one of my favourite players to
watch, but can imagine it being highly frustrating for him. But
I think we are well stocked with young wingers with Gabs &
Murley.
We’re 100% in need of some quality in the second row, a proper
hooker & a good 9, seeing no DC in the squad fills me no hope,
Lewis is useless & Mulchrone blows hot and cold to frequent.
Think we could see these players go (of the top of my head):
Boyce
Horwill
Merrick
Luamanu
Wallace
Lewis
Catrakilis
Visser
Walker
Alofa
Didn’t Gustard say that he was keen to have “quality” over
“quantity” when he first took over. I’m very excited to see what
he does with the team, a coach with his background has got to be
more appealing for players when signing for a new club, and can
imagine with the outbound players leaving it’ll free up some
fairly good cash for Gustard to do what he wants to do.

In my ideal situation Quins would bring in a new lock or two, a
scrum half to compete with Care and a hooker with a high strike
rate at the set piece and can play in the open, if Quins get all
this and have money to spare I think we might see a new 10 come
in. The team is well stocked at center and wings so no need to
look there.

Also mentioned that Clifford may be off to Exeter but not
certain. I could see Ward leaving also. Lambert will call it a
day. Also do not see the need to have Collier, Sinkler,
Swainston, McNulty and Ibuanopke. Expect one of the latter 3 to
leave.
Incomings, based on what is said on here, and other rumours
A hooker - possibly welsh but not able to announce until after
Jan. At first I thought, must be from the regions but if that
is the case why would we have to wait until Jan??? Would that
indicate he plays in the Prem, if so I cannot think of a welsh
hooker in the Prem.
Hooker - Creevey. Apparently priced himself out of a move
Hooker - LCD but he is staying with Cheifs
Prop - Argentinian to replace Boyce. No names but would need to
retire from internationals as we do not want to lose him during
the season.
Lock - Possibly International, again no names
Back Row - Will Evans from Tigers
FH - Harry Plummer from Auckland. Kiwi u20.
SH - Martín Landajo. This was mentioned when Care was rumoured
to be off. If care stays not sure how likely.
FB - Hogg, but he has since signed with Cheifs
I am sure there was a winger but for the life of me cannot think
of his name

playing in the Japanese league so going to take a fat wad of
cash to tempt him away from there

Snyman is also being linked to Sale.
Although which SA player isn't being linked to them.

This makes for a really interesting discussion. I agree with the
points about a lock coming in, also a hooker to give Crumpton a
bit of competition. I thought Jonno Kitto was quite a good
replacement for Care last season, so another quality scrum half
in the mix sounds good.
Where I am a bit conflicted is fly-half. Having seen Cipriani,
Biggar and Farrell control games this season, it shows what
quality and experience bring to this critical role on the pitch.
However, I think Lang and Smith can get there too. They just
need the continued opportunities. I know there is a risk of burn
out but I think they can rotate enough to prevent that.
That said, if Reinarch and Biggar pulled up in a mini tomorrow
asking for a game, I would happily stick them on the bench!

Of the others that I know are out there, none are internationals
Re FH. I agree we could do with some experience but we actually
have a top quality, experienced FH in the squad. Problem is he
is a shadow of his former self, which I can understand with the
injury he suffered. If we can get him back then that problem is
solved. |Good to see him playing in the A League. More he
plays the more chance he gets over it.
