I reckon this will be Northmores last season. Maybe Waghorn can
take his place as the battering ram 13 with Atkinson at 12,
would probably make the most sense, even if we had Bradley,
Waghorn and Atkinson on the books

Not sure where these Northmore sentiments are coming from. He
has suffered from the lack of a decent 12, and has been forced
to play there at times, but he is a good option at 13 and when
settled has been on the fringes of the England squad. He is only
29 and seems like he has plenty left in him, so I wouldn't be in
a hurry to move him on.

I'd prefer Beard at 13. In many ways, I feel he's a better fit
than Northmore. Luke is a very good player when fit, but doesn't
seem to have managed a run of games for some time. Oscar is also
much younger.

I'd always pick Beard over Northmore, as he offers more I think.
Northmore's injuries do rack up and I think if you are looking
to the future, thats where the tough decisions are made.
He wouldn't be on bad wages, but do you give him another
contract and get probably another 2 seasons out of him where the
best days maybe behind him, or do you push on and go for a core
quad who are 5 years younger (or so) who are still developing

I'd pick an in-form and fit Northmore, but I don't think there's
too much in it. When Quins are firing he always seems to be
involved in all the best stuff, tries etc.

Just depends what you want at 13. Northmore is the better
attacking player, a try scoring threat, who picks better lines.
Beard is more consistent and a much better defender.
I like Beard and I'd be willing to see how he goes under Cooper,
but his try scoring record is abysmal for a 13. I honestly think
he's been poorly served by the coaches and some encouragement to
hit harder lines and to gamble a bit more on receiving offloads
- and, hopefully, more offloads in general throughout the team -
could really see him kick on.
But as it stands, I think the way Northmore plays fits our best
style of rugby.

Yeah, I'd like to see Beard pick a line and run forward rather
than sideways at the point of contact much more than he does.
His sidestep has always been lauded as his USP and when it works
it's great, but it does get him in trouble a lot and just stalls
our attacking momentum too. But then I don't know how much we
can attribute this to the pressure we were bringing on ourselves
in the wide channels last season - our 13 and wingers were too
often receiving man and ball. Still agree with Jammy that he
could and should look to vary his game and take a leaf out of
the Northmore playbook, hitting some channels at pace -
especially off first phase.

Interesting stat in today's broadcast - Atkinson had the most
post contact metres in the premiership last season of any back,
by some distance.
