Seb Atkinson rumour (for next season)

Apologies if this has been mentioned in another thread but I
       haven't seen anything...
  HTML https://www.ruck.co.uk/rugby-news/england-star-receives-harlequins-offer-as-london-move-edges-closer
Do I even need to caveat? It's Ruck... but interesting
       nonetheless.
Honestly not sure how I feel about this one. I hope we can tie
down Bradley - he's really starting to look like he's maturing
into a proper foil to Marcus - but maybe the allure of nailing
down the Wales 12 shirt will render us powerless in
negotiations. In which case, this makes sense.
But Atkinson is a defensive 12 first and foremost - I'm not
convinced he will really give us the gainline we need. I do hope
Waghorn can come back from injury firing - if he does and we can
keep hold of Bradley, I'm not sure Atkinson is the right profile
of 12 for us... but keen to hear others' thoughts.

Atkinson is in my opinion pretty decent in attack, a playmaker
and good physical presence, good distribution, we are never ever
going to replace Andre like for like, but Atkinson is a very
good all rounder and would fit in well.
Even if we lose Bradley to the allure of the 6N wooden spoon
every year for the foreseeable future and playing for a region
in front of 5000 people we still have Waghorn and Kerr, would
like to keep Bradley, but Atkinson is a step up.
But it is Ruck so I won’t hold my breath.

Would be a good signing. Perhaps Bradley has said he wants Wales
honours so that will mean playing for the regions sooner or
later, so in that case might as well not have him in the long
term plans. Atkinson/Waghorn/Kerr would be more than acceptable.

Bradley's hands are pretty bad at the moment and Atkinson is no
slouch on the crash. It'd be a big upgrade.

Just imagine a Quins back line of Friday, Smith, Murley,
       Atkinson, Beard/Northmore, Green/Isigro/Siguake, Furbank !!
Could be 4 or 5 of England's back line as well.
       Even a fool can dream!!

We can't replace Andre. Physically, Bradley is not that far off
though. 1m92 and 106Kg is not exactly dainty, and he's still
young. Let's see how he gets on with a fresh start this season.
Also, Waghorn isn't much smaller and showed some excellent play
pre injury. Unless Bradley has expressly stated he wants to go
to Wales (does anyone?), I'd saqy we pin our hopes on those two.
I'm back on my soapbox, saying we should trust in the youth
primarily. Mid-table this season, contenders the next. By the
end of this season, injuries permitting, we'll have a team that
have bonded, and know each other's game inside out.

I agree we should trust youth, but Atkinson is also only 24 and
not a product of Gloucester but of Worcester, and is already
very experienced and has huge growth potential.
A move to us would benefit both parties, and Gloucester are now
the have nots of the league financially, we have Waghorn and
Kerr to develop and both are also EQP.
Inside centre has been our biggest problem area for the last
couple of seasons, you also get the feeling that both Waghorn
and Kerr would function well at outside centre as well.

Waghorn played 13 outside Kerr in the JRWC winning England squad
       2-3 years ago.
Kerr initially looked a little small to play 12 at senior level,
so it will be interesting to see if he gets to play 12 more this
season. At U20 level he was a very good playmaker 12, and it’s
possible that with our new coaching setup he’s better suited to
the offloading and smart lines style we seem to be looking to
       play.

I’d take Atkinson tomorrow. Only at Quins could we spend four
years asking for a quality 12 and then decide we don’t want one
       that might be available.

If he wants to come and we can for him within the cap without
compromising other recruitment, then yes. But we don’t know if
       we can.
And to be fair, we’ve had a pretty good track record to date of
replacing seemingly irreplaceable players from within the
academy; we’ve got several good candidates already (including
two JRWC winners), but Andre left earlier than planned and their
progression has been hampered by injury.
