Edward Sigauke in action for Zimbabwe
Harlequins are thrilled to announce the signing of Zimbabwe
international winger Edward Sigauke ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Sigauke, who made his international debut for Zimbabwe in 2024,
has gone on to earn 12 caps for his country, crossing the
whitewash on eight occasions. He was a key member of the
Zimbabwe squad that lifted back-to-back Africa Cup titles,
underlining his pedigree on the continental stage.
A product of Lomagundi College, Sigauke went on to represent
Emeris University, where his performances helped fire the side
to Varsity Shield glory in 2025. His electric pace, elusive
footwork, and try-scoring instincts have marked him out as one
of the most exciting young wingers to emerge from Zimbabwean
rugby in recent years.
Sigauke will officially join up with his new teammates from 01
September ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

Head Coach Jason Gilmore said: "Eddie is a player we've been
tracking, and we're really pleased to get his signing over the
line. He's got tremendous speed and footwork that makes him a
real handful for any defence, and we believe he's got all the
raw tools to become a weapon for us out wide.
“What excites us most is his potential - he's still developing
as a player, and we can't wait to see how he grows within our
environment as he takes the next steps in his career."
Speaking on his move to The Stoop, Sigauke said: "I'm incredibly
excited for the opportunity to join Harlequins and everything
that comes with it. I can't wait to get started, to push myself,
and grow both as a player and as a person within this squad.
"Adding value to the jersey means a lot to me - it's not just
about my own performance, it's about contributing to something
bigger and helping the team achieve what we're capable of. I've
spent time speaking with Gilly (Jason Gilmore) and I'm really
bought into the brand of rugby he's wants to build - it's
ambitious, it's exciting, and it's a style that suits how I want
to play.
"This is a new chapter for me, and I want to make the most of it
- working hard every day, learning from the players and coaches
around me."

I was chatting to a friend about this guy and predicted he'd get
picked up after the RWC but glad Quins have got in there before!

He looks pretty good, but do we really need more backs? Unless
we're expecting quite a few injuries or someone is leaving, our
backs are fairly well stocked.

I'd imagine he was pretty cheap and could be something special,
so worth a punt IMO! Expect we'll see him mainly in Prem Cup.

We've seen lots of electric wingers who are flash in the pans or
in an out of sides because they don't have a rounded game. He
has at least been playing XV's though, so fingers crossed his
positioning, defence and catching are half decent!

Yep and if he proves useless in other areas I expect we'll let
him go. As I say, likely cheap and a very exciting prospect that
seems well worth a punt compared to other past signings.

Great opportunistic investment in a young player and looks like
he'll be a real entertainer, too. Pretty sure Squidge Rugby has
talked about this guy for a while.
Hopefully his Zim career can kick on and he gets better with
PREM and World Cup experience. His cap hit definitely won't be
too bad either, so little downside.

At wing we are not exactly over burdened with talent, we were
playing Cameron Anderson at the end of last season regularly,
who is very much a journeyman and unlikely to do anything
special, so he looks well worth taking a punt on, and seems to
have pace good feet and be able to break tackles, if he can do
that in the Prem, is the question of course.
At present we have one really good winger in Murley, a winger
still adjusting from sevens, and then a number of other options
that have good and bad parts to their games.

Low risk high reward so worth a go.
Isgro was poor last season. Anderson uninspiring. Could be an
interesting option but time will tell if he can defend and his
overall awareness.

Out of interest, how long does it take to adjust from 7s?
Assuming you mean Isgro, from what I can see he last played 7s
in the '24 Olympics. Since the start of the 24/25 season, he's
played 25 club games (incl. 2 sub appearances) and 15 Tests (1
as a sub).
IMO, 40 games is a decent amount of experience. For comparison,
I wouldn't call Freeman a novice at international level any more
and he's "only" got 30 England caps
