       James Lang

Has been reported by the Scotsman as training with Quins while
looking for a new club after his release from Edinburgh.
I don’t know if we have space to offer him a contract under the
cap, but if he’s fit and affordable having an experienced 10/12
on the books wouldn’t be the worst idea.

It would be very handy to have another 10 for when Smith and
Furbank are of on England duty.
The issue with James is that he may also be off with Scotland at
       the same time.
Also, he is unlikely to be cheap.

Doubt he’ll be in a Scotland squad again, one of his big upsides
for a Prem team is he’s now EQP again as hasn’t been capped
       since 2021

He seems to have been treated a bit poorly by Edinburgh, and
moving there did nothing for his career, they promised much but
achieved little and were always seemed less than the sum of
their parts, would be a useful addition as a squad member.
His Scotland career seemed to end when after he left us, all
depends on cost and contract length and if he is willing to not
get that much game time unless there are injuries.
We have two decent options already at 12 and Bellamy at 10, who
will need to play to improve, would love a really top class 12,
       but that is not him.

FWIW, he still seems to be good friends with Marchant - possibly
his best man going by recent social media posts.
Would’ve been a decent replacement for RdP but I think Lozowski
       has taken that role.

I’d feel much better having him at 10 if Marcus and George are
away with England/injured than a largely untried Slevin. My main
worry with slevin is he’s a jack of trades master of none type,
and whilst it has its place, I wouldn’t feel massively confident
going into an important must win type game.

The trouble with that is he never started a single game for
Edinburgh at 10, so if we were looking at cover for 10, would
not be him, I would suggest Bellamy is the likely starter at 10
when both Marcus and Furbank are both not available, we don’t
have a great record for backup 10’s our last decent one was
       Tommy Allan.

Bit harsh on Benson there, Rugbycat.
Backup 10 is a tricky position, because anyone good enough to
start will want to go somewhere they can start. I think you're
right that Bellamy needs game time but we will still need bench
       and injury cover.

Never considered Benson as a backup 10, he was a academy
product, and is a real loss, but because we never played him
before last season we didn’t know what we had, and I suspect he
had decided to leave before we could do anything about it.
Was really talking about 10’s we brought in not our own products
but my bad for not saying that, I think that we had also already
decided that Bellamy was the better prospect of the two, which I
think may be right, but time will tell.
Still don’t think that a player who has not started at 10 for
five years is a good idea, we also have Slevin as cover, I
suspect since he has mentioned France and Japan as a
destination, the cost may well be higher than makes sense for
       us.

He wasn't particularly good for us before, wasn't very good in
Scotland, and would likely not see much game time. But he's a
ball playing 12 and one familiar with the club, so if he's dirt
cheap then there's no real harm I guess
