The Champ clubs get less in total than the RFU pays one Prem
Club - and their influence on the RFU is as Bogart would put it,
not worth a hill of beans.

Might as well go in asking for a lot so you can eventually
compromise at a higher salary that he'd otherwise get. Depends
on how much Hearn tries to did his heels in. Saints have shown
they'll let a player go rather than pay more than they want to.

As champions, Saints will be subject to the deeper dive so I'd
imagine any issues would come to light

Yes, agreed. I was actually thinking of seeing if there's a
correlation between spend and league position. I know we (Quins)
spend up to the cap yet ended up 2nd from bottom.

I believe that their agreement was required to remove
relegation, but they now probably have zero influence on the
prem clubs, but really should they.
There seems to be a divide between the champ clubs and the
national league 1 clubs also, as any new prem franchise has to
play at least a year in the champ, so I would assume that a club
does not get promoted if a new franchise appears like the
Birmingham team being suggested.

As I understand it, from what those who were in the room have
told me, the discussion went, we are getting rid of promotion.
If you agree we will give you more crumbs at some point in the
future, but if you say no, we will take all the crumbs away now.
I also understand that there will remain one club relegated from
the Champ, and only one guaranteed promotion place.
Currently, there is also a play off for a second promotion
place. But that can be replaced by bringing in a franchise.

Apparently in 2024-25, the clubs who spent up to (or close to)
the cap were Bath, Sarries, us, Tigers and you.
Those teams finished 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 6th and 7th.
Newcastle were widely mentioned as spending the least and came
bottom.
Which to me suggests that spend has some correlation but isn’t
the only factor.
