He has not in my opinion developed, and throwing in is
undoubtedly a required skill for a hooker, him biting a opponent
is probably worse than me questioning his potential quality.
How long can players be cracking prospects and not considered
wasting their potential, he was never given the expected playing
time at Quins, there may be a reason why, but that is something
we will never know.
I actually believed he would be an exceptional player when I
first saw him, but the more I saw , the less confident I became.
But if want to go down the everything is awesome road, that is
your choice, I just think he is extremely overrated, and that is
more about the dearth of English talent in the position, than
his demonstrated abilities so far in his career.

I don’t get the throwing thing. Never had an issue with that
and can still show the youngsters how to do it. Just takes
hours of standing chucking it at the post/crossbar from
different distances until you don’t miss. Boring but not hard
to develop by any means. And I had jumpers that didn’t
(couldn’t!?) jump!!

You also probably didn't have jumpers who moved rapidly, complex
lineout plays, and opposition who would get to the ball if the
arc wasn't right no matter the accuracy.
I don't think there are any hookers in pro rugby who can't hit a
static target.

I dunno. Played a decent level.(obviously not premiership but
with some who did). I just think hookers spend too much time on
other things than practicing throwing.

Have to agree with FQ on this one. Too much time spent on being
a menace in the loose and hitting rucks and turnovers rather
than hitting double top and scrummaging. Props get a lot of the
stick but hookers bring as many down a game as they do.

Throwing is the easy bit, that's why. If it was as simple as
"more practice at throwing = excellent lineout" then a) every
team would be amazing at it, and b) we would see no obvious
difference to lineout success depending on the people actually
in the lineout. Lewies is a very pertinent example here.

I think we are talking about different things. I agree that
second rowers can make or break a lineout routine (probably more
than a hooker). My point was that the standard of throwing is
poor and that is down to a lack of practice. There are plenty
of times that the row do their job but the hooker misses the
target. I find that very frustrating have played at 2 and
rarely done so - despite not being particularly good.
