I have sent a copy of The Queensbury Rules to the Argentinian
Ambassador and I have also suggested that the Argentinian
throwing punches should be exiled to the nearest offshore
Island. Oh...

It is quite interesting that for many Argentina were always a
side (in rugby at least) that rugby fans always liked as a
neutral, wanting to see them do well. Sadly that appears to now
be eroding as they conduct themselves in a way which has no
place in the game.

Probably inevitable that the rugby team would develop the same
unsportsmanlike conduct as the football team, as rugby becomes
more popular, when it is considered a success that the inflation
rate is only 33.5%, and your economy has been in continuous
decline for over a 100 years, and have gone from being one of
the wealthiest countries in the world to a basket case.
You have run a budget deficit for 113 of the last 123 years, and
the standard way of your government dealing with that has been
to print more worthless paper money, creating hyperinflation of
up to 300%, and causing you to default on your foreign debt 9
times, so no one wants to invest.
Your economy relies on agriculture exports, when global warming
is making that increasingly precarious, and your current
governments answer is severe austerity “chainsaw measures” which
have brought inflation down to just 33.5% but have created a
recession, increased unemployment, and decreased purchasing
power.
You have to be taught by law at school that you own some islands
300 miles away, that everyone else says you don’t, and that if
you could own them all your problems would be solved, or so your
vice president says, and we all know that Argentina produces
trustworthy politicians.
Winning a game of football or rugby will make it all better and
taking along a banner that says we own those islands where 99.8%
of the population want to retain their present nationality will
solve all of the problems.

I've always quite like Argentina as a neutral so it's a shame to
see the silly stuff. The choice of shirt was just lame, not
clever. England aren't a particularly good side and we're very
beatable, but they shit themselves in the foot with their
brainless approach

To add some balance... some of these reasons are what helped
Milei gain the presidency. As you point out, inflation has
fallen drastically. There are signs of improvement. It seems
that a long history of socialism just didn't work. Quelle
surprise. The problems caused will take a long time to resolve,
but to take a look at iot now and dismiss it entirely is doing
an injustice to the start of what is (hopefully) a recovery.
Maybe the chainsaw approach is working.
To expect Milei to have it all running perfectly by now is
unrealistic. You couldn't event get such a turnaround from Saint
Burnham himself. Maybe if Milei wore more black/dark blue
t-shirts, he'd be more favourably regarded though, by some at
least.

Argentina has never been a fully socialist state, Peronism. and
populism are not solcialism, all shared the common trait of
massive state intervention into the economy, anything taken into
state ownership such as the British owned railways or US owned
telephone system was for political reasons.
Peron supported workers rights and trade unions and social
welfare but also admired european facist leaders, the first
government he was involved in in 1943 came to power to prevent
Argentina entering the second world war on the allied side in
1943.
Argentine politics are very different to Europe or the US, but
constantly repeat the same themes, the current president has
reduced inflation but at the cost of reduced household income
and poverty, relies on a over valued Peso that is managed by the
state, and with huge debt repayments coming that will depleat
their foreign reserves, does not promise a happy future, they
also rely on currency swaps with the US, which leaves them at
the mercy of the USA.
History suggests that the voters will throw them out and the
wheel will turn full circle once more.
Argentines have a saying.
God made Argentina so rich and beautiful, but balanced it out by
populating it with Argentines

No there hasn’t because it is impossible, the closest is the
Nordic model, and of those countries, Sweden, but even they
rowed back from their great experiment of 1970/90.

turned out to be impossible in practice.”
I honestly think you would struggle to compare the military
junta, popularism, Peronist, corruption of Argentina, with any
of the governments of Sweden.
The population of Argentina are looking for easy solutions to
problems that are virtually impossible to solve, and the present
president although an economist is just ignoring the underlying
cause of Argentine economic problems and promises the
undeliverable goal of a return to wealth of over a hundred years
ago.
The increased posturing over the Falkland Islands just shows
that the present government is falling back to the same tired
populist posturing.
May win the next election in 2027, but very unlikely to win the
next, and the next government will bring diametrically opposed
economic policies, except for just printing more worthless money
which every government has done for the last 130 years.
