Scotland have one impressive win per season. It's just usually
against us.
They did manage two this season - us and France. They also beat
Wales by just 3 points and lost to Fiji during the Lions tour.

Scotland put in a much better performance, but the scoreline
(and the progress of the match) was only marginally different.
The baffling thing is that England have had multiple games where
they just looked bewildered on the pitch, interspersed with a
couple where they looked more like the team that won twelve on
the trot. It’s hard to predict which side is going to turn up.

Scotland have limited players to choose from, but play a style
of rugby we can only dream of. They are a much better team than
us. They tore us apart this year.

I was genuinely surprised at how hard a game Scotland gave SA.
It's easy to say it was a weakened SA team; but it wasn't a weak
SA team. A lot of what might be deemed third choice players in
that squad would walk into the England team. The Scots were
physical, abrasive, and the running lines of their forwards were
superb at times. I'd put them far ahead of England on the
weekend's showings.

The key thing is South Africa have a pool of fifty or so top
class players, and can rotate them without much drop in quality.
And that does not count any exports who may have qualified
elsewhere due to residence.
We simply do not have that talent stream - which is possibly
down to culture, Rugby is still a religion for the white South
Africans - and increasingly being played by the blacks.

The thing that surprised me were the statistics for that game:
