He deserves it, but honestly, unless the forwards can hold up
against the Boks and our set-piece gets sorted properly, it
doesn't much matter who is in the backs.

Good to see his time in the goggles has paid off. Sticking with
Freeman at 13 though, he get's so wedded to these systems and
his WWI mentality...

Will be an incredible test of his all-round game, but fully
deserved after a starring role in an otherwise dismal England XV
performance against the French.
Interesting tidbit on RJvR and whether the Boks would pick him
if there were injuries:
--- Quote ---
> “If I tell the honest truth – and I hope I don’t drop anybody
in it – we had conversations with him and he was very keen to
come,” said Rassie Erasmus. “But then my CEO asked: ‘Are you
going to try and cap him this year?’ And I said: ‘No, I don’t
think so.’ Then we wanted to [call him up] in June and give him
a chance because we were thin at centre and we had the
Barbarians game and the SA A game.”

Yeah. I thought Freeman was really poor at 13. But practice
makes perfect, I guess. Or not.

Lots of pundits thought Freeman was good at 13 because of the
yards he made ball in hand, but I thought he carried and
defended too much like a winger. He definitely had more impact
in attack than Slade, but lacked the vision and reading of the
game that we know Marchant can bring.

Unfortunately, all our options for 13 that are currently
available for selection are not great defensively for different
reasons. Hilariously, Slade's probably the best of the bunch
now; Lawrence misses hatfuls of tackles, Freeman is physical but
not always positionally sound, and Ojomoh's tackling is by far
his weakest area.

It's a bit of a poisoned chalice, being asked to play against
Cheslin Kolbe or Kurt-Lee Arendse. But Cadan is a phenomenal
player and I'm sure he'll give a good account of himself if
picked. Going forward he's a very strong player, but asking
anyone to defend against Cheslin... poor bloke!

I would have thought Marchant is now available as he’s signed
for Sale.
