England's defence was poor. Ireland found it so easy to get in
behind them. England looked either unfit or just not that
bothered in defence.

Not sure Ireland were better. We completely tore them to bits in
the first half. They had a good start, and they were a bit
better in the second half, although not by much. It was fairly
balanced, but I thought we were better on balance.

I think the scores reflect what happened - Ireland's backs were
clearly better and scored 5 tries that they made look pretty
easy. Our pack was good and got the Staples and penalty tries
from mauls, plus one from the backs with a good line by Knight.
I can't remember the Pater try because I'm old. Ireland's
lineout was poor, and the scrums were dominated by England in
the first half and Ireland in the second.

Ireland had a brief period of terrible discipline that cost them
two yellows and a penalty try. That was the winning of the game
for England.

It was quite an expanded time. I think they'd given away at
least 5 penalties in quite short order before the first card.
It's easier to hold a team out when you infringe and stop their
attacks...

I'm not sure that's quite right tbh. The first yellow was after
a break rather than a period of extended pressure - England had
been defending for a bit iirc. The second came from a collapsed
maul soon after. Both straight yellows and deserved, but it's
not like they'd spent twenty minutes giving away penalties. They
only conceded 11 all game (one more than us).
I think the stats tell the story - they had a lot more territory
& possession, lost the ball much less often, made more breaks,
more post contact metres, won the ball a lot on their own
restarts, but a terrible lineout + the cards + some crucial
missed tackles meant they were playing catch-up most of the game

Been saying that for a while. A freakishly athletic player.
